    1. Re: [MSLAFAYE] DICKEY - WOOD
    2. William Ward
    3. Have you checked the DICKEYs in Yalobusha County for possible relationship to this line? For example, the marriage bonds show union between: E. W. Dickey and Cora Gaston, 29 Jul 1896 S. D. Dickey and Fannie Pinkelton, 3 Dec 1899 Thomas J. Dickey and Mrs. E. A. Pillow, 29 Aor 1874 Rebecca J. Dickey and Henry Counts, 24 Aug 1848 William D. Haile and Lucinda Dickey, 15 Jan 1842 J. H. Sartain and D. J. Dickey, 13 Nov 1899 J. B. Trusty and Josie Dickey, 27 Dec 1891 There is a lengthy article on the family of Lillie Bell BOXX, nee DICKEY, on pages F-39-40 in the Yalobusha County History. I read through it but did not see a connection to the DICKEYs you named in your query, however. A quick check of the cemeteries of Yalobusha co. shows 6 DICKEYs interred in Oakhill Cemetery in Water Valley, 29 in Mount Liberty cemetery SE of Water Falley just inside the Calhoun county line, and a few more in various other cemeteries. I didn't take the time to compare the namew with those you've named, but will be happy to send you a list by private email if you wish. Bill Ward WARD, PASS, SARTAIN, BLAKELY in Lafayette Co. The 1870 census for Lafayette Co. shows Thomas J. DICKEY living in Water Valley Post Office area, north of the Yalobusha/Lafayette County line. That area was annexed in 1872 to place all of the Water Valley area into Yalobusha County at the request of the MCRR for taxation purposes. The census entry is as follows: Enumerator pge 35, census page 694 Family 284 Dickey, T. J. 38 M W Farming $0 $425 TN , M. J. 40 F W K. H. TN , D. A. 19 M W At home TN , J. J. 16 M W At home TN , M. A. 6 F W TN , D. E. 3 F W MS This leads me to believe the family moved into the county between 1864 and 1867, based on place of birth of last 2 children. 3. Yes the old cemetary that is behind Anchor B. C. is the old Shipp Cemetary. I live directly across from it on County Road 373. There is also another cemetary on the road before you come to the Shipp Cemetary, it is the new Anchor B. C. Cemetary and has about 5 or 6 people buried in it so far. I think what you mean by hospital is that the old Shipp House is back in the woods from the cemetary. There is nothing left of it except the foundation. It burned in the 1960s, but had not been lived in for years before that. It was an antebellum (or near antebellum) house, in the shape of a big "L", and two storied. My grandmother always said she would have loved to live in that house. It might have been used as a hospital in the Civil War possibly... (don't know about that, don't know much about it's early history). I am linked to some of the names you mentioned by marriages, but not directly descended from those families.
