I found a Martha Simmons born 1844 in Mississippi, the 1880 census has a Hattie Banks living with her says she's her daughter,,Martha is married to a Nick Simmons. in the 1880 census Martha, Nick and Hattie are living in Gainsville Junction, Kemper, MS. I'm assuming if this is Harriet's mother then her maiden name must have been Banks like Harriet. I don't find Martha anywhere else though after 1880.
