I don't have the divorce record and haven't been able to get anything from Kemper Co., MS on that yet. Also need the burial records. According to family oral history, they were divorced after the birth of Queenie, their last child, around 1870, and Robert disappeared from the area for a while. Josephine died before 1880. The children went to live with their father. The Priscilla A. who married Robert was four years older than Priscilla VDV, the sister of Josephine. Robert came back with her, after Josephine died, so now I'm wondering if he went to Noxubee Co., MS, and married a Priscilla there. Would be good to have marriage records. You can see, in the 1880 census, that Priscilla VDV is single and living at home. She was said to have died unmarried in MS. Would be good to have cemetery records in TX. Also in the 1880 census, R. E. Tool is listed with Priscilla, age 42, and Charles, age 2, and five of his six children from Josephine. Charles gave his birthdate as 14 Oct 1876, which would mean his mother was age 38, when he was born, still a different age from Priscilla VDV. Josephine and daughter Priscilla died before 1880, perhaps of disease. Would be good to have burial records on them. I'm also wondering if the family moved away because of all this...the divorce and all. I don't know what the sexton might have for Corn Cemetery, Hill Co., TX for this family. That might give some more details. Unfortunately, people rely on what they heard from relatives, which may not be the actual facts. The story gets handed down through the family and never verified. I've found that a few times in fact-checking family oral history. Lots of records still to find to verify all this. Do you have cemetery records for MS or TX? Do you have a marriage record for either marriage? They may not exist. Do you have anything more on the children of Robert Toal/Tool? According to my records, the Toal/Tool surname was Irish. Do you have anything on that? I appreciate anything you can share. Peg Spencer Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
