Born and raised in Scooba, Mississippi, she accepted Christ at an early age and was introduced to cooking when her aunt opened a café called "Do Drop In." She later met and married the love of her life, Willie B. Colvin, and in 1951, they moved to Mansfield, Ohio, where they made their home. Affectionately known as "Nanny" or "Ms. Willie", she was a longtime disciple of Faith Temple Church of God In Christ and retired from Bob Evans Restaurants where she worked as a main line cook. She was predeceased by her husband, Willie B. Colvin; son, Jimmy Colvin; and parents, William and Laura Avery. Those who remain to cherish many precious memories of Nanny include her son, Kenneth R. Colvin; daughter, Karen L. Colvin; eight grandchildren, Tamika (Montels) Holland, Shawnteze (TeQuilia) Colvin, Labreece Reynolds, Sharale Colvin, Londale Colvin, Martina Colvin, Lashonda Colvin, and Max Hoagland; five great grandchildren, Dierre Buckhanon, Alizé Anderson, Lexus Peak, Teshawn Colvin, and Alana Colvin; special daughter-in-law, Peggy Colvin of Mansfield, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Della Johnson of Columbus, MS and Rosie Colvin; special aunt, Aslean Young of St. Louis, Missouri; special cousin and best friend, Sadie Crusoe of Mansfield, OH; special cousins in Muskegon, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life 11 a.m., Monday, April 21, 2014 at Faith Temple Church of God In Christ, 504 Daisy St., where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the start of service.
