    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: WilliamLWhite Surnames: White Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.mississippi.counties.kemper/1673/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Does anyone know the historical significance of Fort Stephens, Kemper County, Mississippi. Presumably it was a working military installation at some point in time, perhaps during the Indian wars preceding the signing of the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek. I'm interested in learning the origin of the installation. I would also appreciate any local information on William H. White (1805-1888) or Archibald White (1809- ) families. William H. White lived in the Fort Stephens area, probably from the late 1850s through his death and was one of the early settlers of adjacent Lauderdale County. He and his wife, Huldah Cochran White, are buried in Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery. Archibald White lived in the area briefly in the 1850s and 1860 before relocating to Shubuta Station, Clark County. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
