For that reason there are no birth, marriage and death records, before that date, with the exception of the CW Widows Affidavits from the County Commissioners Book H, 124 marriages. The only other major resource is the 1854 Land Roll. There are a few deeds from around 1870. The Family History Library has a few odd sources, otherwise that is it. The marriages affidavits and the cemetery records are on the Kemper GenWeb site. There are also the federal censuses and some state censuses before 1850, and some tax records. I do have a Facebook account - but seldom use it. I guess I will have to check that out. I know what you mean about folks not wanting to do real genealogy. Everyone wants a "quick" answer. Can't say as I blame them- however, I personally need documentation that backs the information up! Glad to know it's not just me when it comes to what is now available on line; for several years there were constant contributions from researchers being added. Wish I had the time to go to court houses, etc. I do go to my local library when I can, but that has it's limits. Good Luck in your research!! Sylvia PS You made feel better knowing it's not just me! I have the same feeling. I understand, from posts I've seen, that everyone is using facebook for genealogy these days. Since I don't do facebook, I can't confirm that. It also appears to me that everyone is happy with copying their genealogy from major websites, and have no interest in research. It's also possible that all the folks who were doing real genealogy died. Most of the people I corresponded with when I first started were my parents generation. Most have passed on. In the beginning contributors would add their transcribed records to the Gen Web sites (I know these area no longer updated); Cyndi List had links to these, which made it easy to find all states, etc. I had contributed to these sites with information that I had transcribed. All that seems to be gone. Now I just seem to find links to links! I am a member of Ancestry & Fold3 which are paid sites; I know about Free Family records thru the LDS. I always check Cyndi Howell's "What's New" category. I look at State Achieves a for any actual records that are online. Am I missing something out there? Does any one have any other sites that I might check. Just seems that no one contributes there own transcriptions anymore. I don't know - maybe it's just me!! Thanks for any help! 1. [MSKEMPER] Sylvia, start the New Year off with EVERYBODY telling us who they are researching in this area!!!
    2. Jeanette via
    3. Sylvia, I agree that it surely was different in the old days! I remember! One thing that has been extremely helpful for me is Googling. I put in names of husband, wife, children and where they lived and when. Really, just anything you know or what you're looking for like a will in a certain county about a certain time. Sometimes less information is better. Stand back.....you may be surprised at what comes up. Check all that possibly could be yours. When I go to a site, I put a search for my key names by pressing CTRL + F which will give you a FIND box at upper right hand. Also check for related names. I am also finding a lot of genealogy on FindAGrave on sites of descendants of ancestors whose graves have disappeared. Good luck! Jeanette [email protected] Looking for relatives and ancestors of Robert HODGES of Kemper Co. MS and Sumter Co., AL. Children: Robert, Jr., Allen, James and Cely Ann Hilson. I think they were in Cheraws, SC about 1790 then Autauga Co., AL abt 1820, Sumter Co., AL operating the ferry across the Sucarnochee River where Robert, Sr. and Allen died in abt 1840. I want to know if the other Hodges in the Sumter Co., AL area were related: Hugh, Philamen, John P. Hodges?

John Jordan is buried at Zion cemetery in Kemper county. >From what little research I have done, I have a few theories based on census records on who Francis' parents are.
