My two Kemper county lines are McKee and Childers. William G. Childers (b. 1809 SC) and his wife, Elizabeth Pierce (b. 1814 NC) moved to Kemper County from Greene County, AL after 1856. They do not show up in either the 1860 or 1870 census, so we're not sure how many or who the children were. You'll notice by the gaps in the ages of the ones we know about that there is plenty of room for other children. There may have been a Belle Childers. The children we know about are Eliza (b. 1848 AL), Mary (b. 1849 AL), Willis William (b. 1856 AL) and John (b. 1860 MS). Mary married a Yates and Eliza married a Joiner. Willis m. Lottie/Lettie Windham whom I believe to be the sister of Edward E Windham. John m. Love Deanne McKee (or Lovedy Ann McKee). Willis and John migrated to TX abt 1890. I believe that William G. Childers may have been dead by the civil war, as notations in some published diaries mention staying at Mrs Childers place. The McKee family moved to Kemper County after 1870. The father was John McKee (b. ca 1825 SC) and the Mother was Rachel Unknown (b. ca 1825 AL). The census records conflict in places, but I believe they were in Neshoba Co, MS in 1860 and 1870 and in Randolph Co, AL in 1850. I believe the children were William b. 1844 AL, Mary C b. 1846 AL, d. Rains Co. TX, m. William Goff; Elizabeth Judson b. 1850 AL m. William Goff (no descendents) d. TX, Lucilla C b. 1856 AL, d. Rains Co. TX, m. Ed Windham, Love Deann b. ca. 1864 MS d. Rains Co. TX, m. John Childers; John Henry b. 1867 MS d. Rains Co. TX . Jackie Ingram (from Lauderdale co. MS) and Willie b. 1871 MS. Willie is a question mark, as they already had a son named William. However, he is listed as a son in the 1880 census. According to family stories, John McKee and all his children (except William and Willie) moved to Rains County TX in 1899 with their spouses and children. They came by wagon train originating in Jackson, MS. I've also heard that the Ingram (from Lauderdale, MS) Braziel and Brown families also accompanied them. The son of John McKee, William R. McKee was m. to a woman named Nannie. It is reported that William committed suicide. Any information would be appreciated. Barbara King ________________________________

My George Wade King b. 1838 NC m. Ann Rainey Miller, dau. of Eli Miller and Catherine Hall Rainey in abt 1866. They lived in the Lockhart area of Lauderdale Co., MS which is just a few miles South of the Kemper Co., MS line. I am pretty sure William V. Rainey of Kemper Co., MS was Catherine's brother and they were children of Edmond Rainey and Phoebe Slayden. William later moved to Lauderdale Co. and served in several County official positions. Descendants may have moved on West. I would love to know where they went and other details of the family! Pictures would be great! I wonder if there is any connection of my George Wade King with the Kings of Rio in Kemper Co.? I would love to compare notes with persons interested in any of these surnames! Thank you! Diana, Please tell me what is involved - I've never actually understood when I've signed up for a list. What computer hardware, storage, and storage is required? How much time monthly is required - approximately? I can 'use' a computer and follow program directions, especially if someone explains it, but I am not great at the hardware/mechanics of computers. What else should a list minder know? If no one is adopting MSKEMPER, I might be able to do so. That is the only one on the list that I subscribe to. Linda, I already volunteered to take the Kemper List, but I have not had a reply from Diana, I did it privately. I manage other mail lists, and have done so since the beginning of lists, so, can tell you what it takes. Basically, you need nothing to manage a list, except your own good sense. All of the hardware and software is owned and maintained by RootsWeb. The list manager is monitors the list, and maintains its civility. If things should get out of hand, the list manager terminates the thread, and if individuals violate the termination, the list manager removes them from the list. Except for terminating threads that have gotten out of hand, it is my style to handle any disciplinary situations privately, off list. Marleen Van Horne
