Nancy, thanks for the listing of 1819 marriages in Jefferson County, Mississippi. One correction. The Nancy Terry who married Alexander Willis on 17 August 1819 should be Nancy Torry (sometimes spelled Torrey). She was the daughter of David Torry (1748-1827)and Margaret McPhaul (1768-1846). I am researching this Torry (Torrey) family and other Torry families in and near Jefferson County, Mississippi so would like to hear from others who may have the same research interests. This Torry family came to America from Scotland c 1770 and settled in Cumberland and Robeson Counties in North Carolina before moving to Jefferson County, MS in the 1805-1825 time frame. Doug, Who were the parents of the David TORREY you mention? There is lot of information on the Torrey family in "Lumber River Scots," published in 1942 by the Estate of Angus Wilton McLean, Lumberton, NC. Doug, I hesitated when I saw that name, because I had a hunch it probably should be 'Torry!' I'm familiar with the name because my Carmichaels and McCormicks came from Appin, Argylleshire, Scotland (probably Isle of Lismore) in the 1770's/1790's. They settled in Richmond (later Scotland) County, NC, near Cumberland/Robeson. And some of the Carmichaels later migrated to Robeson. I've often marveled at the number of 'same names' (usually Scottish) who are buried in the Stewartsville Cemetery, Richmond Co. (where my g-g-g- grandparents and many other family members are buried) and the Union Church Cemetery. So many families and neighbors migrated together, from Scotland, and then all across America together! I have Myrtle Bridges' excellent new set of 'Richmond County Estate Records'......there are many, many names from nearby counties. Would you like me to take a look for Torry?
