    1. [MSJEFFER-L] Re: CENSUS (MERRY)
    2. Nancy Brister
    3. Merry, In 1840: Elisha (?) McCAA, can't read most of the household numbers but there is a male, of 10 and under 15 who could fit Albert, also Elisha, as shown in the 1850 census below, is the right age..... David is the only other McCAA in 1840, and the only male child in household is under 5...... In 1850: (Merry, the 1850 listings are all spelled 'McCAD' in the index, but it may have just been a transcription error, because the handwriting looks like 'McCAA' to me in the entries.) A. McCAA, 20, planter, b. MS; Martha McCAA, 20, b. MS; male, 25, w/unreadable different name, laborer Elisha (?) McCAA, 47, planter, b. SC Nancy, 46, b. MS Sarah, 23 (all children born in MS) Sam, 15 Rebecca, 13 Isaac, 12 Candes, 10 John, 8 Charles, 6 David, 4 Elizabeth 2 In 1850: Thomas CATER, 43, planter, b. SC; Nancy, 42, b. GA Thomas, 17 (all children born in MS) Sinor (?), 12 (female) Sylvester, 7 Mary A., 4 ? , 2 (male) James, 22, laborer ? , 20 (female) In 1840: William CATER No CATERS in 1820 or 1830. Merry, don't know why Thomas CATER doesn't show up in 1830 or1840. Wm. is the only listing for CATER in 1840 (unless there's an additional CATER on the same page that is illegible, but it's a fairly clear page). And no CATERS in the index for 1820 or 1830. Another one of those genealogical mysteries to unravel! Nancy
