Jan, That's certainly an exhaustive history you have on James Montgomery and Denis Nevill. I only wish I could further identify James and details of his friendship with Denis. I wonder if James may have moved on soon after he bought the land on Coles Creek? He may have continued into LA, since you found his marriage recorded in Hebert's "Southwest LA Records." While my particular branch of the Montomerys has SC and GA roots, with plenty of them named James, this mysterious one doesn't match anyone in my files, even slightly. I, and probably other researchers, would be curious to hear from his descendant that you mentioned...maybe we could connect with the GA roots.
