    1. [MSJEFFER-L] Re:Slater
    2. The Louisiana Genealogical Register, Vol. XVIII, Number 4, December, 1971 stared an article by Mrs. Mary A. Petersen, "British West Florida: Abstracts of Land Petitions" on page 318. The article was too long to include in only one issue and ran through March 1973. The December, 1972 issue had: "SLATER, MARY - 23 March 1776 400 acres near Pointe Coupe. She had arrived with her husband, John Slater in March 1773. Land Office not open so they settled on a vacant space near Pointe Coupe with her children Michael, Hugh, William, Joseph, Hannah, and Pamela Slater. Council advised That land be granted in names of the children but in one piece. Mary Slater had been Mary Newton." The 1792 Spanish Census of District de Second y Sandy Creek (Adams County) listed Hugh Slater as a white male aged between 15 and 50, having 6 horses, 8 cows, and 100 hogs. The 1805 Census of Jefferson Co. listed Hugh Slater with two males over 21, three males under 21, five females and five slaves. The 1810 Census of Jefferson Co. listed Hugh Slater with one male over 21, three males under 21, one female over 21, three females under 21 and six slaves. Does this help? George R. Lewis
