In the book Early Jefferson County Mississippi Records, Vol. 1, Published by the Vicksburg Genealogical Society, Vicksburg, MS, in Feb. 1991 in the section "Tavern Records," are the following entries for 1811: "20 June 181 Appli. for lic./MS Territory, David Holmes, Gov. James Steward, Henry Green, and James Stew- ard/ for $300/ James Steward/ publick (sic) house/ town of Greenville/s/s/ James Stuart/ James Stuart. 20 June 18 Receipt: from William E. Parker to James Steward/"...and in the 35 1/2 year of American Independence." 21 June 1811 Recommendation: James Stewart/ a proper and fitting person to run a tavern in Greenville./s/s/ Joseph D. Annette, Some of the names mentioned in the documents your quoting are familiar. I think your James Stuart/Stewart is the same one buried in the Roachland Plantation Cemetery -Aged 69 years, d. 19 Dec 1836 per Ann Brown's great Jefferson County, MS Cemeteries, Etc. Vol II. The William E. Parker who signed the reciept on 20 Jun 1811(?) was probably the one who married Sallie Elizabeth Guice in Franklin County, MS on 13 Jan 1819. She was the dau of Christopher Guice, Jr. and his wife Rachel. Daniel Harrigill mentioned in the 21 June 1811 Recommendation was the Rev. Daniel Harrigill who with his wife, Isabella and several children, arrived in Natchez by flatboat in 1788. He was enumerated in the Jefferson County 1810 census and in the Franklin County 1820 census. He is believed to have died in Franklin County before 1830. Some of his descendants still live in Franklin and Adams Counties in MS. One of my ancestors, Dr. John Shaw was supposed to have had a plantation in Greenville and for a time he was the postmaster in Jefferson County. However, he was later appointed to the same position in Franklin County after it became a county in 1809. Tony Miller in Calabasas, CA
