Hi List! I am in the process of indexing the 1860 Jefferson County Census from the images provided by Nancy Brister at ROOTSWEB. I have posted the completed districts on my web site. It is currently being proofread by Nancy and therefore there may be some errors. I am not indexing this in the normal, limited way of just last name and page. I have found that is very limited in use for the average amateur genealogist! So I have listed the index in the following manner: Last name First name Middle Name or initial Image# ( the number on the image file) Actual page# Remarks ( like ?spelling) Race ( only if not white) Enumeration District (Town of Rodney, etc.) I think this will be much more useful. When it is complete, I will post it for free to ROOTSWEB. The address to my website is: http://members.tripod.com/ageoghegan/GeogheganMS/index.htm If this link is not clickable for you, simply cut and past it in you browser address. The Census pages are still under construction and do not line up like I want them to, but they are usable. For now, you can only reach the actual images from the first page of the Census, but I am going to add a link from each district. Each District has its own page. All districts except Union Church (which had a third of the county population!) are posted, each on their own page. So if you already know which district your people lived in, you can just skip the rest. Let me hear from you what you think of it! Ann Geoghegan
Dear Ann, Greetings from Seattle! BUT a transplanted Mississippian from Hamburg. One Suggestion: Put your data in Excel form. It will be much easier to shuffle the data. Will the complete census (not just index)be available? Hi Fulton, Yes the complete census is available already in image form. You can access it from my main census page. You will need to check the index to see which image your ancestor is on and then look at or download that GIF file. All of the image files are under 200kb. I don't have Excel but I do have a spreadsheet. Would it work better as a spreadsheet. It looks exactly like I want it to in a database, but doesn't translate to HTML right. I may have to go back and put it in table form. Thanks for your input. Always nice to hear from you!
