List, this doesn't have much research value but I was curious if any of you knew anything on this person listed below. My father found some more reel to reel tapes of my grandparents (Allen Washington Duck and Mary Hampton Duck) and is converting them to cassette tape. My grandmother came to Red Lick around 1917. Lynda I have a Benjamine Prentiss Vaughan in my database but no Benjamin Franklin. I just recently started my Vaughan research because my husband's great-grandfather was orphaned as a child and was raised by relatives and it has been extremely difficult. Do you have any dates for these people? Or parents of the Vaughans? I will be glad to keep an eye out for information. Ms Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ms/Jefferson/438 Surname: Clark, Faris ------------------------- I am searching for information on my grandparents Lucien Faris and Jewel (Clark) Faris of Jefferson County, Lorman MS. Also I know I had a great-uncle who was a doctor in Lorman also a Dr. ____ Clark. Anyone who can help I would really appreciate it.
Benjamine Franklin Vaughn and his wife Lola, they lived in Hazlehurst, later on, and the oldest daughter who was named Lula Mae, her name was changed to Nell Vaughn Nell married J.B. Lindsey who are my husbands parents. She went on to have 10 children of her own, her sister Peggy was adopted by the Spain family, there was a lady who lived in the curve of the road on the way to Union Church, on the right side of the road going that way a store was across the road from the house, I have talked to a gentleman who ownes the store, this lady who lived in the house in the curve of the road, was kin to Macie, my mother in law met her in the mid 60's. George Curbin, according to the 1920 census from the archives in jackson showed he was from Maryland. We dont know what happened to him after he gave his two girls up, we were told that at time, the Health Department usually took care of these kind of things, we learned later on after my mother in law that the Vaughns had never leagly adopted her, from what we learned about them, they might have had other children like Nell in there home, also, the Vaughns, would come into town in Fayette, and would see some of the family members of Macie, they would hide Nell until they were sure no one was still there, it was a very tragic time for this little girl, she married at 14 and had a child, my husband at 15. She was a wonderful woman, and she did try to fine out a little before having her last child, the 10th in 1962 Lola died in 39, my husband remembers her, they lived I think by the ball field in hazlehurst. we have a picture of 3 girls, Macie is sitting down , she had elephant foot disease, big large ankles, her two sisters are besides her, on the 1920 census, there was a Jones Family listed below her little family, we wondered if it was her family, it listed a brother, who was crippled, on the census also. thank you for listening. Don't be surprised to find someone in Jackson, Mississippi or even New Orleans. A lot of time they had family in the big city. Diane Hall
this was a very poor poor family, and I dont think they were in Jackson or New Orleans, this mother Annie Macey Jones Curbin had two girls, which were given away, she was in the hospital when this happened, and she left looking for them, and was found dead, in Fayette in the winter, of 1922, now to find out where she had been prior to her death, is just one more thing we hope to learn, before her grandchidren all die with out knowing who she was, and where she came from, thanks At 11:24 PM 01/28/2001 EST, [email protected] wrote: >Don't be surprised to find someone in Jackson, Mississippi or even New >Orleans. trying now to concentrate on when Annie Macie Jones Curtin died, and what hospital she was in before her two girls were given up or given away..one went to the Vaughn family who lived in Redlick, and the other went to a Horrace Spain, both girls are now dead, and we are trying to fine out about the grandmother Macie, she would have had 30 grandchildren At 05:00 PM 01/28/2001 EST, [email protected] wrote: >Linda >In 1922 the folks from the Fayette area probably went to either Natchez or >Vicksburg ... Linda In 1922 the folks from the Fayette area probably went to either Natchez or Vicksburg ... Union Springs ... I think you probably mean Union Church, they would probably have gone to Brookhaven or McComb..... Church Hill area probably went to Natchez. Ann Brown
Not sure. But would guess it would be Natchez Charity Hospital in Natchez. Would anyone know where the closest hospital would have been in 1922 in reference to the Fayette, Union Springs area God Bless Lynda
There was the Chamberlain Sanitarium in Natchez, between the Eola Hotel and Franklin Street, which was used by paying customers and the Natchez Charity Hospital next to the Natchez City Cemetery on Cemetery Road for those who could not afford to pay. Later, probably around 1929, the Natchez General Hospital was constructed. Lots of people in the Jefferson and Franklin County areas also used the hospital in Vicksburg by choice. Perhaps some also used the King's Daughters hospital in Brookhaven. Tony Miller
