My great-grandfather Henry Erwin lived in Lincoln County but apparently also owned land in Franklin County. His daughter Emmaline married a Moore (one of three husbands) and his grandaughter Maggie (daughter of his son Tom) married John Buckley. They lived in Urania, LA, and had no children, I think. Perhaps this possible connection will help you--

Annette, Some of the names mentioned in the documents your quoting are familiar. I think your James Stuart/Stewart is the same one buried in the Roachland Plantation Cemetery -Aged 69 years, d. 19 Dec 1836 per Ann Brown's great Jefferson County, MS Cemeteries, Etc. Vol II. The William E. Parker who signed the reciept on 20 Jun 1811(?) was probably the one who married Sallie Elizabeth Guice in Franklin County, MS on 13 Jan 1819. She was the dau of Christopher Guice, Jr. and his wife Rachel. Daniel Harrigill mentioned in the 21 June 1811 Recommendation was the Rev. Daniel Harrigill who with his wife, Isabella and several children, arrived in Natchez by flatboat in 1788. He was enumerated in the Jefferson County 1810 census and in the Franklin County 1820 census. He is believed to have died in Franklin County before 1830. Some of his descendants still live in Franklin and Adams Counties in MS. One of my ancestors, Dr. John Shaw was supposed to have had a plantation in Greenville and for a time he was the postmaster in Jefferson County. However, he was later appointed to the same position in Franklin County after it became a county in 1809. Tony Miller in Calabasas, CA
In the book Early Jefferson County Mississippi Records, Vol. 1, Published by the Vicksburg Genealogical Society, Vicksburg, MS, in Feb. 1991 in the section "Tavern Records," are the following entries for 1811: "20 June 181 Appli. for lic./MS Territory, David Holmes, Gov. James Steward, Henry Green, and James Stew- ard/ for $300/ James Steward/ publick (sic) house/ town of Greenville/s/s/ James Stuart/ James Stuart. 20 June 18 Receipt: from William E. Parker to James Steward/"...and in the 35 1/2 year of American Independence." 21 June 1811 Recommendation: James Stewart/ a proper and fitting person to run a tavern in Greenville./s/s/ Joseph D. Lewis/ John Holland/ John Brooks/ *Daniel Hamigil[?]/ John Gaskin/ Peter Ott/ John D. Wilds/ James Smith/ Wm. Calhoond(sic), J. J. Scott/Jas. Ferguson *Nat. Cward[?], Hiram Baldwin, John Berry, Thos. Harvey." I am trying to determine if this is my ancestor, James Stuart. Does anybody recognize any of the other names? Posted on: Jefferson Co. Ms Queries Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ms/Jefferson/10462 Surname: Moore ------------------------- Well, I don't know how I messed that up. My interest is in John W. Moore, married to Mary E. Buckley in 1863 Jefferson County, Miss. I don't have access to the census index to recheck the previously posted census information. I was trying to figure out just who Mary E. Buckley was.
Nancy, Thanks for the offer of look-ups! Do you have anything on Thomas Jefferson Sanders & Josephine Watson Leggett Sanders? Thanks, Debbie

Hi, I have the "Mississippi County Court Records" book, covering Jefferson, Claiborne, Wilkinson, Homes, Hinds, Warren and Harrison Counties. I believe the dates are from early to late 1800's. I'll be glad to do look-ups. Nancy
Hi everyone, Following is a list of the men who served in Charlie Clark's Rifles, Company H, 12th Mississippi Regiment, CSA. My g-grandfather, Josiah Garrett, was a member of this unit and the following info was found in his wallet after his death in 1928. The unit was made up of men mostly from Jefferson Co., many from the area around Union Church. I have Josiah's war record and, assuming all of the members of Charlie Clark's Rifles share the same history, I'll repeat it here: ".....was with Lee in Virginia, Second Bull Run or Manassas, Gettysburg, Spotsylvania, Chancelorsville, Fredericksburg, Richmond and many others." (I wouldn't be surprised if there are some misspellings......) Nancy Brister Roll of Charlie Clark's Rifles, Company H, 12 MIssissippi John J. McLean - Captain John D. Fanly - 1st. Lieut. Thomas C. Hi Fulton, Yes the complete census is available already in image form. You can access it from my main census page. You will need to check the index to see which image your ancestor is on and then look at or download that GIF file. All of the image files are under 200kb. I don't have Excel but I do have a spreadsheet. Would it work better as a spreadsheet. It looks exactly like I want it to in a database, but doesn't translate to HTML right. I may have to go back and put it in table form. Thanks for your input. Always nice to hear from you! I have posted the completed districts on my web site. It is currently being proofread by Nancy and therefore there may be some errors. I am not indexing this in the normal, limited way of just last name and page. I have found that is very limited in use for the average amateur genealogist! So I have listed the index in the following manner: > > Last name > > First name > > Middle Name or initial > > Image# ( the number on the image file) > > Actual page# > > Remarks ( like ?spelling) > > Race ( only if not white) > > Enumeration District (Town of Rodney, etc.) > > > > I think this will be much more useful. For now, you can only reach the actual images from the first page of the Census, but I am going to add a link from each district. Each District has its own page. > > All districts except Union Church (which had a third of the county population!) are posted, each on their own page.
