I have never heard that Wilford had Indian blood.. According to my information he was born in 1794, possibly in Cumberland Co., North Carolina. I have very little information on him or his wives. He and Elizabeth Sermons Smith are buried in Sarepta Cemetery in Franklin County, MS. I cannont seem to find much information on him. Where was Wilford Smith at the time of the 1850 census? He does not appear to be in Franklin County and he wasn't nearby in Jefferson County. Was Elizabeth Sermons the dau of Josiah Sermons (Sirman?) and Catherine Kennedy?

One reference is found that Lydia's father, Jim Freeman, gave land to the city of Natchez, and had the first cracker manufacturing facility there. Henry was born in Natchez, MS., Oct. 11,1832. Lydia Freeman was born in Adams Co. Ohio, Aug.1833 and died May 11, 1872 in Union Church, Jefferson Co., MS.

Hi Fulton; Mary Getrude Prather was the daughter of John W. Prather, often referred to as Dock, Sr. (records of his offical name along with his divorces from his first two wives can be found at the Chancery Court Records in Franklin Co) and his third wife, Lavina Campbell. They had at least two sons: Joel and Dock, Jr plus 5 daughters: Lucille who married a Maddox, Ida who married a Dr. Kenny, Irene who married Norman Hill, Mary Gertrude and Vera. Hi Fulton, I need to ask a question about the lines you give below. Do you have any further information on Irene Gadsey Smith who married John Prather? Here is the reason I ask. I warn you it's a slim clue. My husband's grandmother's name was Mary Martha Smith. She married first Thomas Hila James and second Luther Ernest Bailey in Lincoln County in 1906.I don't know which county she married her first husband in. My mother-in-law once told me they thought she had brothers who had lived in Franklin County although they didn't know their names. This lady died when her son, my father-in-law was only seven years old. In some of my mother-in-law's notes I found where she wrote she thought Mary Martha "Mattie's " brothers were Doc, Rowan, and Russell. She made a note that she thought Doc Smith died in Welcome, AR. Do any of these names sound like they might connect with any of your Smith information?
