    2. Marie Coleman's Crossing is in Jefferson County .. it was connected with the Cotton Bale Battle ... The Coleman's lived in a two story brick house at the intersection of what is now US HWY 61 and State Hwy 552. At the time of the battle State Hwy 552 was routed somewhat different than it is now. The battle started somewhere about woodvine road and Rosswood plantation ... then proceeded west toward Coleman's crossing. Section 29, Township 10 N, Range 2 East. A Colored troop of that expedition was almost wiped out and they are buried on the north side of 552 between Hwy 61 and the Natchez Trace ... actually closer to the Trace. I have an account of this battle from both the Union and Confederate side. It was Moorman's Battaltion that fought there against Elliott. I was honored by the SCV a month ago to speak at their meeting and The Battle at Coleman's Crossing was my topic. Ann Brown

    3. Yes, that sounds like the one. In a pension statement, Joseph Dunbar stated he was wounded at Coleman's Crossing in 1864 and lost his left arm. I was wondering just where Coleman's Crossing was and what kind of battle was there. 1. Re: [MSJEFFER-L] correction
    2. Marie, Several miles east of Lorman on Highway 552 on the way to Red Lick you come to the intersection of Woodvine Road that goes to the Northeast. If you go to the left on Woodvine Road about a mile you come to the intersection where it joins Coleman Road. This is the only reference to Coleman that I find on the Jefferson County Highway Map. I can scan this for you if you would like it. Tony

Ms Queries Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ms/Jefferson/10499 Surname: ------------------------- William Kelly and William Kelly Jr. appear in Jefferson County, MS, Court Documents 1820-1840 (ordered copy but as of this date I have not heard anything from Chancery Clerk in Fayette). I believe the above William Kelly (Sr)to be the son of Rev War Soldier John Kelly of Fairfield Co, SC. John Kelly had a son William Kelly (Sr) who was named in John Kelly's will. The will stated that William Kelly d. before 19 Jan 1842 and William left two daughters and a minor child. The deceased William Kelly's two daughters: Mary/May who married John R. Harris, 19 Mar 1835, and Elizabeth who married Elias Harris, 1841 --both married in Claiborne County, MS. Believe the minor child to be William Kelly (Jr) above. Any info on William Kelly and/or William Kelly Jr. would be greatly appreciated. Jodi Killeen: [email protected]
