    1. [MSJEFFER-L] 1789 Oath of Allegiance
    2. Ben Strickland, P.O.Box 5147, Moss Point, MS 39563, has published these in: "Residents of the Mississippi Territory, Miscellaneous, Books 2A and 2B", by Jean Strickland and Patricia N. Edwards. These two volumes contain things like the 1792 Spanish Census of the Natchez area, Court Cases, Acts of the Legislature, Censuses in the area from 1803 through 1816, as well as the Oaths of Allegiance to Spain in 1789. It is a very handy reference for people looking into that area at the early period. It does not have a lot of the Tax Rolls for the various counties, but the Claiborne-Jefferson County, MS, Genealogical Society in Port Gibson has them on microfilm, as well as the county censuses. George R. Lewis

    3. . I have the two volumes of "Passports Issued by Governors of Georgia, 1785-1809 & 1810-1820" and I'll be happy to do look-ups People who passed through the Indian Nations in Georgia on their way west to the 'new' Mississippi Territory were required to obtain passports. I notice that not all, but most, of the passports were granted to people from North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia .....along with some Mississippi residents who wanted to travel back and forth. 1. [MSJEFFER-L] Irby
    2. Looking for information on any of the IRBY families which were in Jefferson Co. between 1800 - 1870. My gr grandfather, William Jesse IRBY, was age 25 on the Claiborne Co., MS, 1880 Census, born MS. Looking for his parents and/or siblings. Wm. J. IRBY was killed 29 Apr 1894 by Britton NESMITH at Martin [now the Pattison area], Claiborne Co. Some older family members indicated that Wm. J. IRBY was possibly the son of Harrison IRBY and Deliah DEAN who married in Jefferson Co. I have not been able to verify this. Wm. Jesse IRBY was the husband of Eugenia Caroline WESTROPE, married in Claiborne Co. Their children: William Dean IRBY m. Alice Gertrude BAKER; Mary IRBY m. Berry OWENS; Will IRBY; Daniel Boone IRBY; Serena IRBY; Delilah IRBY. Any help will be appreciated.

    3. Cyd, If you get a reply, please let me know. My grandfather, James Judson Gordon, was to have been the wharf master in the Mississippi River port town of Rodney...while Rodney was still on the river. I have yet to confirm this information. Maybe the book will help me too. By the way, my wife is also a Rawls. She was born and raised in Hattiesburg and has just begun her family work. Unfortunately, she only has two generations of info. Have you done any Rawls work?
