Child # 6, Archibald P. Griffin, is my great-grandfather. His mother was Rachel. Some researchers believe James Griffin was Rachel's husband, but there is no proof. A 60-year old James Griffin is on the 1850 mortality schedule, and researchers have "assumed" he belonged to Rachel. Before moving to Itawamba Co., the family lived in Chickasaw/Calhoun County on land patented by John T. Griffin in the 1840's. Therefore, I believe Rachel was married to John T. Griffin and not James. I also disagree that Child #2, Nancy Griffin, married W.F. Jones. According to the headstone in Sandy Springs Cemetery, N.J. Jones, wife of W.F. Jones, was born October 10, 1855 and died Dec. 11, 1911. The dates make this marriage impossible. There are marriage records of a Nancy Griffin and W.F. Jones, but here again, researchers have erroneously linked that marriage to Griffin Child #2. If anybody has information to the contrary, please let me know.
