>From Itawamba Settlers, September 1987 Jan 2, 1908 .Mr C.A. Cleveland related to us a sad account of the death of his brother, Daniel Cleveland, whose home was near Pontotoc, and he was raised in this county near Eastman. After six days of suffering with pneumonia he died Wednesday December 18 and was interred Thursday. He leaves a wife very low with pheumonia... Jan 9, 1908 With great sadness we attempt to write an obituary of Richard A. Senter...He was botn the 17th day of February 1859...he died January 4, 1908...On Wednesday night after the 4th Sunday of September 1879 he professed a hope in Christ and joined the Baptist Church at Mt. Pleasant...He leaves a wife and seven children... Feb 13, 1908 The mighty hand of death visited the home of Brother Walter Lindsey and took from our midst his loving son, John Leonard, who was born August 5, 1887 and died February 5, 1908, age 20 years and six months. Thursday night after supper he was instantly taken sick of pheumonia and after five and a half days of intense suffering he departed this life at the home of Mr. W.M. Weeks where he had been hired to make a crop. Leonard was a member of the Farmer's Union at Liberty and had been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church for about two and one-half years... Feb 20, 1908 The death angel came into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eck Wallace, Saturday, February 15, 1908 and took from their fond embrace, little Walker A., age one year and five months, their only child. March 12, 1908 On the 9th day of February 1877, Dr. Bean was born near Cardsville...where he grew into manhood and spent most of his life. He joined the Hopewell Baptist Church in the year 1901 and remained a faithful member until his death, Friday, March 6, 1908. In March 1903 he was married to Miss. Mary Conwill...and to their marriage were born two children...The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Rogers of Amory and the remains were buried by the Masons at Key's Cemetery, Saturday, March 2. March 19, 1908 The news of the sad death of a 12-year old son of Mr. Lane Benson, brother of Rev. J.F. Benson, was received here last week. The Mart, Texas Daily Herald of March 2nd says, "Six little boys, Elbert Boughton, Robert Johnson, Harvey Benson, Dale Yancy, Rupert Gossett and Willie Riley, had in the childish fancies wandered to spend a few hours at fun and frolic...the old boat by a few devices known only to boyish pranks had been converted into a sail boat, and bore across the restless bosum of the 1 ake...these six little boys, when about in the middle where the water was about 10 or 15 feet deep, this improvised sail craft emptied its burden into the murky waters." And thus three of them drowned. Harvey Benson was a member of the Baptist Church.
