>From Itawamba Settlers - September 1987 One of the earliest settlers of Itawamba County was Joshua Toomer. One of the first actions of the county Board of Police in 1836 was to grant him permission to operate an inn at the Town of Fulton. Joshua Toomer was born October 16, 1794 in Union District, SC. On June 29, 1824 he married Margaret Cox in Monroe County, MS. He died on November 3, 1883 in Dardanelle, Yell County, Arkansas and was buried in New Hope Baptist Cemetery. He was the son of Isaac Toomer and Rebecca Cunningham.
