    3. Jeanie: In H. Grady Howell's "For Dixie Land, I'll Take My Stand," the best-ever index to MS Confederate Patriots, I note the following: Eli G. Lewis, private, Co. K, 36th MS Infantry Elisha D. Lewis, private, 40th MS Infantry (no company listed) Elisha D. Lewis, private, Co. A, 46th MS Infantry Elisha D. Lewis, private, Co. A, 6th Battalion MS Infantry (Balfour's) Elisha V. Lewis, private, Co. A, 7th MS Infantry If you will go to the MS Divison, Sons of Confederate Veterans, website at www.mississippiscv.org and click on the "Mississippi History" tab, you'll find capsule histories of all these units, usually with the county of origin/organization for each company indicated. Look by regiment, then company to see if any of these could be your Elisha. Good luck! If you find a likely candidate, click on the MS Dept. of Archives & History tab at the end of each regimental history and order his Compiled Service Record (inidividual soldier's record). Please consider joining the United Daughters of the Confederacy at www.hqudc.org. Please encourage your male relations to join the SCV at www.scv.org or www.mississippiscv.org or 1-800-MYSOUTH. Thanks! -- Jim H.
