Bill, James C. Gilstrap was performing weddings in Itawamba Co in 1846 including that of my gggrandparents. In 1848 he himself was married to Nancy Jackson. So if this is the same as the one in the Lewis Gilstrap household, it appears that he arrived in MS prior to 1850. Oh, for a time machine! Jo Carolyn

Good morning Jo Carolyn. No. James Calvin was a cousin at some remove to Lewis. I haven't been able to match Lewis of 1860 with my direct line. The name Lewis started in the Gilstrap family about 1790. I have eight Gilstraps named Lewis in my data base but none of the their sons names match. The second generation Lewis moved from Kentucky to Mo. and then to Kansas. If the age of James C. given in the 1860 census was anywhere accurate he was born in 1834. 'My' James was born in 1816. James was married to Caroline Bibbs first. She died in 1847 in Mantachie. We have been able to visit there. James married Nancy in 1849. Family stories claim the the two ladies were cousins. I haven't been able to verify that yet. Bill John / Jo Carolyn Beebe wrote: > Bill, > James C. Gilstrap was performing weddings in Itawamba Co in 1846 > including that of my gggrandparents.
