Mary Ann, Itawamba did not become Lee County. Lee County was formed in 1866 from parts of Itawamba and Pontotoc Counties. James Laney On Mon, 31 Jul 2000 M051346@aol.com wrote: > Could someone tell me when Itawamba Co. became Lee Co..? > Thanks Mary Ann > >
Jen'ee, The index shows 2 references to Rayburn, Bensen 5, and White 13. I could not find an article on any of the surnames. Could someone tell me when Itawamba Co. became Lee Co..? Thanks Mary Ann
Doris, There is no article about the Mitchell family. The index has 8 references to the name mitchell, which most likely someone with the surname of Mitchell married into another family. If anyone knows about this publication, I would be interested in obtaining a copy also. My wife has Stephens, Barnes, and Hankins ancestry in the area. James, Good evening, When you have time, could you please let me know if there are any of the following of any first name in this book? Rayburn, Benson, White Thank you so much for your effort. Jen'ee
James, Do you see anything on the MITCHELL family of Itawamba county in the book? They lived there in the 1850's and 1860's. Thanks so much. Doris Mitchell St. Louis, MO. mitchdor@aol.com
Deborah I don't know where you live but the Dallas Library has twice as much information as the Ft. Worth Library and books to. It is only about 35 miles west of FtW. Shirley
Thanks very, very much. In a message a few weeks ago, Mr. Pate told someone about info in that book. I have e-mailed everybody I could think of in Itawamba Co. to ask about it, but either they never answered my e-mail or else they said that they didn't know. My Johnson family moved to Itawamba Co. between 1840 and 1850, and I guess most descendants are still there. Except my great-grandfather, John F.T. Johnson, moved to AR, back to MS, then finally came down here to TX, where all his descendants still live. Can't wait to get the book. It is hard to research from another state. I go to the nearest large town, Fort Worth, TX, once a week and search through census microfilm and the few books they have for Itawamba Co. and only 1 book for Lee Co. (they lived in the area that became Lee Co.). My Franks web site and the "Itawamba Settlers" are my other sources of info. Deborah, I did not see your post. You order from The Times, P.O. Box 1549, Fulton, MS 38843. The price of the softbound is $25.00 plus $2.25 for shipping and handling. This is the printer that publishes the newspaper in Fulton, Mississippi, but I do not have the telephone number. Hi James, I hesitate asking, but could you please check the Itawamba Co. book for Stricklands and Hinson/Henson surnames? I live in San Diego CA and am finding research in the Itawamba (now Lee) Co. difficult and it would be very helpful to have this info before ordering the book. My families of Berry Strickland and John C.Hinson were in this MS area ca 1850. I do appreciate anything you can tell me. georgie
Does anyone own this book and could take a look? I would try to buy a copy if my ancestors are in it... CLAYTON, EVANS (not the Parrot Evans family), MAY, GILMORE from before 1850 until 1880.

Hi Jean, Thanks for writing to me! I have been stuck on Jackson Davis Ward for some time now and can't seem to find anything about his parent's or sibling's. I have talked with Mike Cobb, he does seem to have a lot of info on Alabama families, but still did not make a connection with Jackson Davis Ward. I'm starting to get frustrated......surely somehow we can find out if all of our Ward's are connected somehow? I think it was Stephen Ward that Mike Cobb mentioned in his email to me, maybe Stephen and Jackson where brother's?
