I normally do not have a lot of spare time, but would be willing to check the annual indexes on a "time available" basis if you want to send me your surnames OFF THE LIST. IF I find anything of value to you that could be shared with the other listers, then you could post and share it, but there is no point in flooding the Rootsweb list archives with lookup requests. With regard to census and marriage records, your local library can get an interlibrary loan of microfilm of the census and also a roll of the Index to Early Mississippi marriages from AGLL or Heritage Quest. That is how I found my grandparents marriage data. Then a letter to the court house with the Book and Page is all it takes. There is also a book called "Cemetery Inscriptions in Itawamba County, Mississippi". The nearest copy to me is in a library in Ponca City, OK. It is a huge book and very nicely done. I don't have any info on Lee County to share. 3. Hi Listers, Some years ago I was in Fulton, MS doing some research on my Dozier/Dodson/ Cooley lines and the public library had a copy of what I THINK is the book you are discussing. It is "Itawamba County, Mississippi Families (1836-1986) Sesquicentennial Edition". I made copies of the cover page and one page that included information on a line I discovered on that trip -- Fikes. The cover page states explicitly that only 513 copies were printed. I don't know if the library will allow it to be copied in full, but PERHAPS a local researcher would do lookups and mail copies for a fee????? Don, could you suggest a researcher? Someone earlier today mentioned reprints by Heritage Books. They have a web page, http://www.heritagebooks.com/ but doing a search for Itawamba did not get any hits. Another company that does superb quality reprints is Higginson Books -- http://www.higginsonbooks.com/ Higginson has several Mississippi books, but again, I didn't note any for Itawamba Co. I really like the layout of the Higginson site and they also have a large number of surname books, so some of you may want to check this out for your missing branches. Happy hunting. -- Diane Scannell Wichita, KS dscannell@kscable.com Rootsweb Sponsor and Proud Donor http://sikes-sykesfamilies.rootsweb.com http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~inthetrees/

Deborah (Johnson) Maston ----- Original Message ----- From: Charlotte Wolfe To: Maston Sent: Monday, July 31, 2000 10:35 AM Subject: RE: Itawamba Co. family histories Dear reader: I have received numerous e-mails concerning an Itawamba County historical book, so I wanted to respond to you. I don't know where or how this information has landed on the internet, but we no longer have any of these books available. Apparently they were printed before I came to the Times and they only did one printing as a project and no future printings are expected. 3. Hi, I wonder why they wouldn't print the book with so many requests being made? Anyway, I receive a flyer periodically that sells books like this one. They also ask for material that they can print and sell. It is called Heritage Times or Heritage Something or Other. I can't remember the name but maybe some of you receive it too. Perhaps someone could suggest the Itawamba Family History be printed. I feel pretty confident that they would if they could get a copy of the material. Just a thought.
