    1. [MSITAWAM-L] S John Warren
    2. Hello Warren researcher. Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer! I came across some information this week about S John's wifes. I know there has been some debate abt where Sarah Robinson (second wife) came from and when she was born. According to "Abstract of Goodspeed's MS Memoirs" she was born 1804 in SC. It also states that they were married in TN and not in AL as we had thought. They must have move to AL shortley after. 1st wife is listed as Miss Gentry ba-1795 in KY married John S Warren. Died in KY. Some of the other related names listed: NB WARREN, Dr --B-in AL on April 10, 1834. Son of John S Warren and Sarah Warren (Robinson). Moved to Itawamba Co-Physician. also practiced in Prentiss Co. Never married-adopted 2 boys: Robjert J b-1867(as spelled in the book) & George B Warren b-1875. Hope this helps someone out. I will be posting the Warren marriage records on my web page this week as well as some new pictures. Hope to hear from fellow researchers soon. Brian Scott

    1. [MSITAWAM-L] Giles McBride & Mary Ann Norwood
    2. Dianna
    3. For anyone else researching Giles McBride and family. This is the Giles McBride who appears on the 1870 census for Itawamba County, Mississippi. At least three of his daughters married Sheffield's in Itawamba Co, MS. They were: a. Ann McBride born about 1842 in TN, died 1926 Anderson Co, TX, married Antonio Madison Sheffield on November 28, 1866 in Itawamba Co, MS. b. Nancy Jane McBride born unknown date, probably in TN and probably in 1840's, died unknown, married General Washington Sheffield on October 04, 1866 in Itawamba Co, MS. c. Frances "Fannie" McBride born October 22, 1853 in AL, died December 16, 1909 (evidently in Itawamba Co, MS since buried there), married Isaac Judson Sheffield August 01, 1871 in Itawamba Co, MS, both buried Walton Cemetery, near Mantachie, Itawamba Co, MS. I have found the following on their father Giles McBride who married 1st Mary Ann Norwood and 2nd Margaret Francis (widow of Unknown Butler): 1. Letter dated March 30, 1992 to Mrs. Hazel Mize (now deceased) from Thomas M. Francis, "Giles' father was Thomas McBride, who was from Tennessee originally, but moved to Lauderdale County, Alabama in 1850. Giles was married to Mary Ann Norwood and they had 10 children who lived. I am descended from Phebe Alice, their 9th child. Mary Ann died sometime after 1854. Though he was 49 years old when it started, Giles served in the Civil War in Co. B, Reynolds, Ninth Tennessee Regiment. On March 4, 1865, Giles married Margaret Butler (formerly Margaret Francis). Margaret was the 15th child of my great-great-great grandfather Joseph Francis." We have tried to contact Thomas M. Francis, but though his letter was not returned to us, there was no reply. 2. 1840 census Hardin Co, TN, no TWP listed: Giles McBride household 3. Hardin County Tennessee Records 1820-1860, compiled by Thomas A. Hays, copyright 1985 by Southern Historical Press, Inc., p 55, "County Court Minutes, 3 November 1845, p 152, Norwood, John, Giles McBride appointed administrator of the estate of John Norwood." 4. Norwood." 5. Hardin County Tennessee Records 1820-1860, compiled by Thomas A. Hays, copyright 1985 by Southern Historical Press, Inc., p 192, "Wills, Inventories and Settlements, Book D, 1842-1848, No Date, p 280, Norwood, John, Inventory Returned by Giles McBride, administrator of the estate of John Norwood." 6. Hardin County Tennessee Records 1820-1860, compiled by Thomas A. Norwood may be the father of Giles McBride's 1st wife Mary Ann Norwood. 7. 1850 Lauderdale Co, Alabama Agricultural Census ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/al/lauderdale/census/lau50.txt 1850 Ag Census - Lauderdale Co., AL Contributed by Bob Torbert rtorbert@shoalsnet.com> Name Page Date Impr land Unimpr land Value McBRIDE, Jiles 511 10/28/50 100.00 100 1000.00 McBRIDE, Thomas 509 10/22/50 50.00 100 800.00 Presumably this is Giles and his father, Thomas McBride. Itawamba County Mississippi Families, book located in Itawamba County Historical Society building in Mantachie, MS., p 198, "Fannie McBride was the daughter of Giles McBride, who was a captain in the Confederate Army, and Mary Norwood. Information is not clear as to the exact death date of Giles, although Mary Norwood died in 1855. Giles and his family moved to Fulton from Florence, Ala., in 1865." 9. These names on 1860 census Lauderdale Co, AL as follows: Mcbride, Giles AL LAUDERDALE CO. DISTRICT NO. TWO 100 1860 Mcbride, Nancy AL LAUDERDALE CO. DISTRICT NO. Unknown how or if Nancy McBride is related to Giles and Thomas. 10. A reference above states that Giles and his family "moved to Fulton from Florence, Ala., in 1865." The marriages of his three daughters all took place in Itawamba Co, MS in the years 1866 and 1871. 11. John and Frances appear to be children of 1st wife Mary Ann Norwood who died in 1854-1855 and the three youngest children are those of Giles and Margaret. Hope this helps someone. If anyone has Giles McBride's birth/death dates and place of burial, I would love to have them. Likewise, I'd appreciate dates for Thomas McBride and wife and Mary Ann Norwood and her possible father, John P. Norwood. Mary Ann was known to have had a brother named Fletcher Norwood. Note surname Griffen spelled once in whole book... on page 128 Griffin, Listed on pages 64, 101, 146, 159, 171 Question have you posted any family page which shows the Father, mother, list of child.. also listed there birth, marriage, death information for your list of surnames GRIFFIN/GRIFFEN, HOPKINS, PATTERSON , THOMAS , BAILEY. Maybe type up copies of the census page, land records, etc. This would help....

    3. Nancy, The book has only a couple of references to Ward and to Spearman. These are people with that surname that married into another family. I will try to get to Fulton and look at it. Is it in the Times officc? I wish I had know about this the other day when I was there researching. Are they any Adams and Lowerys in it? Marjorie Adams Cummings >> Yes, I have a copy. Was sent to me as a gift about three years ago. My is in about six pieces now as I had read it so much. First thing people are to known, is if a name is given, the book only shows Adams on pages 29, 119, 163, 192, 195. Now you have to read all them 5 pages just looking for the surname. Copy of the book is at the Library for you to read. Now if people would just stop saying that they are looking for all and then just list a long list of surnames which means very little to me. Start by making up there own family history pages for what they know and post them here. We would have something like our own New family book which is now long overdo. Until then I am going to stop helping. First thing is to search the posted information or find them in the census, land records, marriage records, etc.. If not there, there is no information. Next add information that they already known. Like I have spend days looking for people in cemetery records and then find that they had moved the whole family to Arkansas in 1870 and the people know that all along. I am looking for one name and next to them are brothers & sisters but I do not known that. Or do just one name at a time and I have everyone else in the family but just that one person who had moved away. Next is the people who talk one on one and then never come back to post a update list to this site. Now all that work is lost and now just a few people have it. The next one in the family to ask for the same information has to start all over. Now some of this is slowly changing as people now known you can have more then just two lines to ask about your family on the Internet. I will wait until they first tell all the known about someone and then ask there question. Until later Don
