Hello List, I am looking for a copy of the Itawamba Settlers Magazine, Volume 10, Issue 2, Summer of 1990. It is supposed to contain an article called "Spradling Family History, Mississippi". I have just recently become aware of this article and I have been looking high and low for it and have had no luck at all. The folks at the Itawamba Historical Society can't find a copy of that issue in their files. If anyone out there has a copy of this issue and would like to sell it, or a scanned copy of it, or a photocopy of it, please contact me. Thanks very much. John Spradling email: jtspradling@texoma.net
Sorry for the delay in responding to the request on my Stephens line. This is my wife's line; Theresa Diane Vaden Vines Laura Belle Lloyd Vaden Stella Estelle Stephens Lloyd (Stella was born in Tupelo, MS in 1903) Carroll A. Stephens (married Mary Jane Barnes of Itawamba or Lee county) James A. Stephens John Abram Stephens. One source I have found states that John Abram was the first cousin of Zachariah S. Stephens' sons. If this is true, then Zach is John's uncle (doesn't my wisdom and/or logic amaze you). I would love to know which of Zach's brothers was John father. I have the following brothers for Zachariah - Edward, Jeremiah, John Andrew, Joseph, and William. I would also be interested in information on the Randolph family (please see below). John Abram Stephens was born 31 Oct 1817 in Tennessee and died 25 Dec 1878 in Itawamba Co, MS (?). I believe he is buried in the Stephens Cemetery in Itawamba county, MS. John Abram married Elizabeth Caroline Randolph on UNKNOWN in Mississippi. Elizabeth Caroline was born 13 Jul 1825 in Tennessee and died 20 Jun 1901 in Itawamba Co., Mississippi. John Abram Stephens and Elizabeth Caroline Randolph had the following children: 1. James A. Stephens was born 27 Aug 1847 in Mississippi. He died 20 Sep 1885 in Itawamba Co., Mississippi. 2. Mary Elizabeth Stephens was born 1 Jan 1849 in Mississippi. She died 22 Feb 1881 in Itawamba Co., Mississippi. 3. Margaret Ann Stephens was born 1 Mar 1850 in Itawamba Co., Mississippi. She died 6 Dec 1880 in Itawamba Co., Mississippi. 4. Lucinda Stephens was born 1852. 5. Baby Boy Stephens was born 18 Aug 1853. Baby Boy Stephens died 18 Aug 1853. 6. John A. Stephens was born 1854 in Itawamba Co., Mississippi. 7. Zachariah A. (Zack) Stephens was born 1856 in Itawamba Co., Mississippi. He died 1929. 8. Sarah M. Stephens was born 1859. 9. Pamila Francis Stephens was born Abt. 1858. She died 1884. 10. Jimima Stephens was born 1864. She died 1886. 11. Baby Girl Stephens was born 10 Jul 1865 in Itawamba Co., Mississippi. She died 10 Jul 1865 in Itawamba Co., Mississippi. I am reasonably confident of the data in my wife's direct line and somewhat comfortable with the rest. However, I would love to have further verification/confirmation of what is listed here. I am amazed at how active this list is. I wish some other county list were this active. Another plea to please specify the SUBJECT name you are when responding to the list. Just highlight the subject and type over it! For example: "Roll Call" would be changed to "Roll Call - John Doe" or whatever surname you are adding to the list or "Doe Marriage Dates" rather than "Roll Call" or "Book". I'm not trying to make anyone mad - rather to be considerate of those whose web time may be limited. Thanks!! Phyllis

During a search I ran across publications about Itawamba, some of which include surnames. But as luck would have it most are out of publication. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~robfra/booklist.html All the best, Lisa Thompson (Surnames: MASSENGALE, TYRE, WEAVER, FEARS, THOMPSON, LITTLE)

I returned home last night after being away for six days. There were 174 Itawamba list messages. Yes, I took the time to count them because my husband and I had a bet about how many messages we would have. Anyway, it's great to have so much activity on the list. But most of the messages don't pertain to my family. I usually enjoy reading all of the messages, but since there are so many now, could I repeat someone else's request and ask that you place your surnames in the subject line? I sure don't mean to squelch the fun. When I get the chance, I'll be posting my 1850 Itawamba census reading as it pertains to my surnames of interest. I don't expect you'll all be interested in my names. Well, back to the list. I only have 114 more messages to read. Jo Carolyn
