    1. [MSITAWAM-L] Article on old Richmond students
    2. David A. Webb
    3. I have just copied (but not typed out yet) an article on students at the old Martin Academy in old Richmond. It mentions what happened to some of the students that attended school there with Col. W.L. Clayton. There is another I copied with it that mentions some other locals. Here are the names. If you are interested I can let you know what it says about each one of these: Captain John D. Williams, Perry Nix, J.T. Richey, Whig Richey, J.S. Clayton, G.C. Bessonett (Bessent?), Billie Bessonett, W.C. Bessonett, Edwin R. Wren, William P. Wren, Platt Bull Fisher, James K. Polk Stovall, Dallas Stovall, Col. W.M. Pound, J.B. White, Robert L. Trice, Alfred H. Raymond The other article mentions: Captain Henry Martin, George W. Stovall, Annastasia Stovall, James M. Williams, Lou Williams, Owen Williams, James W. Lindsey, Martha Lindsey, W.H. Parks, Nim McGaughy, Roman Swiss Thomas, and James C. Gilstrap Part of it can be found here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~unitycem/penpictures071405.html

    2. Pat. I wou;ld like to see them posted as I am always happy to read of any and all Itawamba Co. families I have a copy of the book Itawamba County -- Mississippi Families. This is the book there has been so much posting about. I can scan and post to the list any articles regarding certain families. I don't have the time to read each refererence listed in the index to find the family name mentioned in the other family articles, however. Will be glad to help as I can. If the list doesn't want the scanned pages posted it it...then I can send the scanned pages to individuals. Pat Fauver Pontotoc, MS

    3. I know that I have seen some one else looking for 24th MS Infantry data on the Mississippi Civil War WWW Board at http://www.ebicom.net/~moorer/scripts/wwwboard/. Click on there, enter "24th" in your "Find on this page" screen, and see what comes up! The MS Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans, homepage at www.mississippiscv.org has capsule histories of every MS unit (click on the "Mississippi History" tab). You might also go to the National SCV homepage at www.scv.org, click on the SCV Links tab, and then the "Regimental Histories" tab. Might find some info there. Good luck! -- Jim H.

I was able to look up the members on a few of the microfilm rolls, but didn't have time to get those whose last names fell after COKER and before PARTIN. Lots of B, C, S, W, and other surnames, but not through yet. If you have any info on any of these soldiers, please contact me. Thanks, Dave Webb

    3. Searching for parents of Cynthia Reed who married John W. Works on June 16, 1850 in Itawamba Counrty, MS. John Reed was born 1790 on his way from Ireland to Lancaster SC. His wife, Jincy Coffee, was born 1799 in Mecklenburg, NC. They had 8 known children Wm., Andrew, John or Jack G., Mark or Marcus, George, Martin Van Buren and Elizabeth. The only reason that Elizabeth is listed is because she shows up with her parents in the 1850 census. There is a LARGE gap between George and Martin where Cynthia might be placed. An 1840 census where more females might be placed could be her. I have not seen this census. Any and all help sincerely appreciated. Ann

    3. Jeanie, Yes, my Cockrells came out of Greene County, Alabama. I don't have everything up (just my direct lines--but I do collect info on collateral ones), but you can check out my web site at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~lorithor/ Click on the "My Families" option and it will take you to a list of families I'm researching. I believe that my Cockrell page is up already. I just can't remember the direct link to it. My Cockrells moved to Alabama from NC around 1824 or so. 3. Hi folks, I wanted to post this info since it appears to match up with what was posted before. If my information is correct this line branches off of David Lee Hankins and Mary Ann (Polly) Bean. My wife descends from these folks through their daughter Nancy Ann Hankins who married Berry Lee Barnes. I would appreciate confirmation or correction to the information below. I would also be interested in information on Mary Ann Bean. Well here goes, Joel David Hankins (parents Daniel Burton Hankins and Mary Jane Sizemore) was born 5 Oct 1876 in Marion County, Alabama. He died 15 Jan 1957 in Lee County, Mississippi. Joel David married Orpha Caldonia Robinson on 24 Jan 1895 in UNKNOWN. Orpha Caldonia was born 18 Jan 1876 in Marion County, Alabama. She died 14 Jul 1958 in Itawamba County, Mississippi. Joel David Hankins and Orpha Caldonia Robinson had the following children: 1. John Clarence Hankins was born 14 Nov 1897 in Marion County, Alabama. He died 11 Dec 1965 in Itawamba County, Mississippi. 2. Elzie Ellis Hankins was born 21 Aug 1901 in Marion County, Alabama. He died 16 Feb 1985 in Lee County, Mississippi. 3. Henry Lee Hankins was born 14 May 1903. He died 14 Mar 1909 in Itawamba County, Mississippi. Any help would be appreciated.
