Hi to all - I just joined this list so I thought it might be a good idea to see if anyone connects to my family line. My grandparents were born in Hardin County, Tennessee. I just started tracing the family back and after a lot of conversations, bits I knew, and census records I have discovered that my great grandmother, Penelope Stockton was born in Itawamba County. Some of her brothers and sisters apparently came to Hardin County sometime between 1880 and 1900. I found her older brother John, living with his widowed mother Susan and younger brother and sister Dallas Stockton and Jackie Stockton in Hardin in the 1900 census. I tracked back and found Susan with her husband, Andrew and older children - Marthy, Oscar, and John in Itawamba County in 1880. A little more digging and I think the following is my line in Itawamba County. Andrew Jackson Stockton (b: 1854) m. to Susan (Hall) (b:1847) ........Children: ........Marthy (b.1872) ........John (b. 1875) ........Oscar (b. 1877) ........Almeda (b. 1878) ........(the above were on the Itawamba 1880 census) ........Penelope Hightower Stockton (b. 1882) (my great grandmother married Walter Shipman ........in 1895 in Hardin County) died in 1957 ........Dallas (b. 1883) married to Elzie in Hardin County, died in 1954. ........Jackie (b. 1891) married to Edgar Cresap in Hardin County, died in 1955. John married Fannie Parnell...don't know where they are buried. Almeda is listed as being married to John Worley in 1896 in Hardin County, but I don't have information on where they are buried. Mysteries .....I don't know what happened to Martha or Oscar in the family above. They don't appear on the records I have in Hardin County. I don't know what happened to Andrew Jackson Stockton. Because there is no 1890 census there is a very large gap of my knowledge in this family. (I'm sure members of this list have had the same frustration as the 1890 census gap!) Any information on this branch of my family would be greatly appreciated! Looking forward to learning more about Itawamba County family history! -Beryl Reid- in Massachusetts
Bobbe, No I don't know why he was named that for a middle name off hand, I don't remember if we have connected before. Are you part of the line of Gillentines? Wanda

Pat: You are doing a great service for us - looking up names in the book and reporting on them. Here are the most important of the family names I'm researching in Itawamba County, in addition to the ones listed above: CRAWLEY DAVIS SULLIVAN TOMLINSON WHITE My research also involves families in Monroe County. In fact, that is where I first found the MAGERS/MAJORS in the early 1800s. Later my husband's branch of the family were found in Itawamba County, where they remain to this day. If and when you have time, would appreciate your checking on these names in the book you have. Thank you, Dema D. Magers
Just developed these and scanned them. I hope they are of some interest to some folks out there. They are tintypes of Wiley B. Hallmark (1848-1897) and his wife, Mary Matildee ________. I know very little about these people, but I was told Wiley is buried at Bethlehem in Marion County, Alabama and that Mary is buried at Keys Cemetery in Itawamba County. They both lived in Itawamba and Marion counties. I know of one son they had, John Henry Hallmark (1878-1963 & md. Mamie Lou Lewis), but that's all for now. I also think that Henry Hallmark (that married Effie Parker and who are buried at Springhill Cem. ) might be a descendant or nephew. If anyone has dates and more info on this family, I'd like to see it! Not yet developed, but I do have photos also to place online of these members of this family: Dee Hallmark Nancy Lewis and daughter Luther Hallmark (son of Wiley and Mary?) Mary Franks Charley Elvin Robinson Andy Lewis Robert Hallmark Archie Parker Henry Hallmark Alec Hallmark http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~unitycem/hallmarkwiley1.jpg http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~unitycem/hallmarkmary1.jpg http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~unitycem/hallmarkmary2.jpg Dave Webb
