Dear Nancy, ON page 213 Franklin Co., AL Census is listed a h. 598: James Gocher 54 NC Jemiona??sp.43 TN John W. 10 AL Sarah B. 16 AL Mary D. 14 AL Emily V. 6 AL Rachel 5 AL H 599 James G. Fern: Howdy The Gotcher's are mine.. I have looked at all of the Gotcher's you listed. I am looking for a James Gotcher w/ wife Temperance and in 1850 would have had the following children with them: Sarah C. 6, William 3 and John V. 1, TIA Clyde Gotcher - Hermann MO Raking the leaves under my family tree.
Nancy: Thank you for the offer but that is not what I need. GG'Grandpa James Gotcher was married in Lawrence Co AL in 1843. My G'Grandpa was born in AL in 1849. Henry born in 1851 in either AL or MS. Four siblings in same school in Tish'o Co 1858. I have read and re-read 1850 census until my eyes droop and I cannot find them anywhere in AL or MS. It is possible that they moved between census's (before the AL census and after the MS census) I am going to start on the TN border counties next. Again - Thanks Clyde Gotcher - Hermann MO Raking the leaves under my family tree.
I think that there will be different dates on the censuses, because each day the census taker would date his daily work. Clyde, if you tell me what page of the Itawamba Census your folks are on, I will see if I have it and tell you the date on it, (if I copied that part). I copied some pages of it that have my ancestors and related family members on them.....so you might luck up and have some on the same pages. Clyde, I think there was an agricultural census in AL that was separate from the federal census. Maybe they will be on that. Diana: I think that is where part of my problems lie. The census in Franklin and Marion Co.'s in Al were not made until late Dec. (They did not count on Xmas Day) so there is a 3 to 4 month window for people to move from AL before the census into MS after their census and miss all of them. Clyde, Re: the 1850 Itawamba Co census I have in my notes that my g-grandfather was on the 1850 census Itawamba Co and the date of house census was September 20, 1850. I failed to write down the page number or exact location, but on the 1860 census the household was listed as Mooresville. That would be near Mantachie, I believe. Hope that helps.
