I need to add one more thing. First click on the Archives and Library on the top left of the home page. Then this will take you to the search room. Martha
I have just gone into the MS Dept. of Archives and History's web site and there you will find an index of the newspapers they have as well as their biographical index. I hadn't been into their site in a long time and was really surprised to see this. Click on search room then click on online finding aids. www. mdah.state.ms.us
Is there anyone in Itawamba Co. that I can pay to go to the courthouse and make a photocopy for me? I would like to have the Estate Inventory and Sales Records of SANFORD CARTER. The Itawamba Settlers, Vol. XV, #3, Fall 1995, pg. 33, published the information stating this record was on p. 180, March 3, 1859 Court. The article had ??? CARTER, Adm.... whoever transcribed the document could not read the first name. I would very much like to have this copy as well as any other information contained in the file. When I made my last trip to Itawamba Co. I did not know about this document. Again, I will gladly pay any reasonable amount to get these copies. Thanks in advance. Billie

My sincere apologies to Don Pate......by now I should know better than to argue with HIM.. Had Mary Alice Fikes listed only as Alice Fikes---did not know her husbands name. I am eternally grateful to Don. I'm such a fool sometimes. ~ann~ ----- Original Message ----- From: "maynard" <maynard@hti.net> To: <MSITAWAM-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, December 21, 2000 12:20 AM Subject: Re: [MSITAWAM-L] Mary Alice Fikes > Hi Don -- I'm working on it. RACHAEL EMERSON, wife of J. E. ROBISON, was born July 9, 1815, married to J. E. ROBISON about 1835, and departed this life July 19, 1895, in Ittawamba (sic) County Miss., leaving a husband and nine children to mourn her death. Sister ROBISON professed religion and joined the M. E. Church in 1842, and lived a devoted Christian the balance of her life. She lived to see all her children married and following after her in the same Church to which she belonged. Her last words were that she was ready to die, and asked all present to meet her in Heaven. But only to be in the presence of SISTER ROBISON was sufficient evidence to know that she has been with the Lord. She was not conscious the last few hours of her life, but it made no difference, for she had been living at the cross during all those years. With sorrow we buried her among the trees at Mount Pleasant, on the hills which overlook the once happy home of her young womanhood. Her funeral was preached by Bro. JOHN ARNOLD. Many friends came and shed a tear over her grave, but God, who works everything for our good, if we love Him, will watch over the sleeping dust and bring it to His mansion on high, immortalized, revivified, unite it again with the soul and place a song of triumph and praise on her lips. God the Son of Lazarus, sympathizes with the husband, children and friends in the loss of so loved a friend. A friend Rara Avis, Miss. July 31, 1895
