It seems that HENRY W. and ELIZABETH CHILDERS, my gggrandparents, disappeared into thin air after the 1850 Itawamba Co., MS., census. The only other record we have of him is a Bureau of Land Management record where HENRY and FRANCIS M. CHILDERS, possibly his father or a brother, purchased adjoining tracts of land in Noxubee County, MS., on February 27, 1840, Section 4, T15N, R15E. If any of these connect with other CHILDERS, would like to hear as we have not found hide nor hair of the above FRANCIS M. since 1840 and HENRY and ELIZABETH since 1850. Notes for HENRY W. CHILDERS: Henry W. Childers is listed on the 1850 Itawamba Co., Ms., census, page 364. 1. HENRY W.1 CHILDERS was born Abt. 1793 in South Carolina, married ELIZABETH ???, born Abt. 1804 in South Carolina.. Children of HENRY CHILDERS and ELIZABETH are: 2. i. FRANCIS M.2 CHILDERS, b. Abt. 1829, South Carolina, m. NANCY A. HICKS, January 11, 1865. ii. ELIZABETH CHILDERS, b. Abt. 1832, South Carolina, m. JOHN BRAUMER, December 30, 1856, Itawamba County, Mississippi. iii. ELIZA CHILDERS, b. Abt. 1834, South Carolina 3. iv. MARY C. CHILDERS, b. Abt. 1836, South Carolina. She married (1) JOHN M. BOREN May 16, 1855 in Itawamba County, Mississippi, son of JAMES BOREN and MARY CLAYTON. He was born October 26, 1835 in Tennessee, and died October 08, 1862 in Perryville, Kentucky. She married (2) OLIVER T. RAINS September 17, 1865 in Itawamba County, Mississippi, son of JOHN RAINS and UNITY BAILEY. He was born April 1840 in Alabama, and died Aft. 1900. 4. v. HENRY P. CHILDERS, b. Abt. 1838, Alabama, m. MARY C. ??? vi. ARTEMISA (also spelled ARTEMISIA) CHILDERS, b. Abt. 1840, Alabama, m. JAMES MONROE FRANKLIN BOREN, August 03, 1865, Itawamba County, Mississippi; b. January 05, 1805; d. September 30, 1877, Lee County, Mississippi. (JAMES M. F. BOREN was the father of above JOHN M. BOREN who was married to MARY C. CHILDERS.) vii. OPARHA(?) CHILDERS, b. Abt. 1842, Alabama. 5. viii. JOHN CHILDERS, b. Abt. 1845, Alabama, m. ELIZABETH ??? Thanks, Peggy Horton Marshall, Tx.

Sorry! I posted the wrong date for Historical Society meeting in Tupelo at library with Elizabeth Wells as speaker. The meeting will be June 28th, next Thursday. Always on the 4th Thursday!
Hi, Deborah, I'm a Roberts of Itawamba extraction, who also has Hankins in my family lines. All of the following were from Itawamba County. My father was Ray Conwill Roberts (b. 1922), son of Robert Victor Roberts (b. 1882) and Ida Brinkley Conwill (b. 1883 if memory serves. Robert Victor had a brother named Johnnie B. (b. 1870), who married Dovie Wilson. They had 4 children, Archie, Winfred (William), Letha, and Celeste. These children were all born sometime between 1890 and 1905. Johnnie & Victor were the sons of Clercy Ann (Clarissa) Roberts (b. 1845). We're not sure who their father was, as Clercy wasn't married. Clercy's parents were John B. Roberts & Jane Cochran (both originally from the Carolinas). They had a slew of other children, whose names I can't recall offhand, though I do have that information on my computer at home. I suspect that if there is a connection in our families, that it might be also from the Hankins side, which would be in Ida Melvina Conwill's line. Ida's parents: Isaac Brinkley Conwill & Sarah Elizabeth Parker. Sarah Parker's parents: Micajah Parker, Jr., and Martha Matilda Hankins. As someone may have suggested to you, perhaps Minnie was a nickname? If you think that there could be a connection here, I'll be happy to send you more info. I have a line of Palmers who descend from John to Benjamin Hezekiah to Dr. Russell Porter Palmer to General Grant Palmer. I don't have Charity Palmer, and wonder if she relates to this family. Does anyone know anything about Miss Minnie Roberts who lived on the River Road in the Tombigbee Community, Itawamba Co.? She was probably born between 1900 and 1920, and is no longer living. My grandfather, Elzie Hankins (of the River Road) claimed her as a cousin, but I do not know how she was related to him. Can anyone give me a clue? None of the Roberts family has shown up in my family research yet. Thanks. Deborah __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! First Wayne thanks for the Unofficial Minutes of Itawamba Historical Society, this is the first minutes that I have seen. I have been a member for about 5 years or more. But I live out by Seattle Washington. My cousin Virble & Charles West are some of the founding members of the Historical Society and do some of the reports for them. No one said anything more about new business or future things that the Itawamba Historical Society could be doing? Any plans to do more on line? Don

Unofficial Minutes of Itawamba Historical Society Meeting Date 6-19-2001 Overview of LINDSAY reunion that was held at the center in May. Speaker: Ailene Baily from the Daily Journal Newspaper She talked about articles she has written for the paper, including an ongoing series of articles titled "Houses with History." She has also written articles on the McFerrin Store and other historical buildings in Lee and Itawamba Counties. She needs ideals for stories and can be contacted at the Daily Journal. Copies of articles can be obtained through the Tupelo Library and from the Daily Journal if you have the date the story was published.
