Just a little additional information about the Ballard's. The Ballard's, Bruner's, and Erwin's left Satillo, Lee Co MS in about late 1893 and came to NE Texas on a train. The Robert Ballard that was mentioned is buried at Providence Cemetery in Smith Co TX along with my relatives. Robert K Ballard, b - 28 July 1870 & d - 22 Apr 1954. He married Etta L Kent. She is buried next to him. You can find this online: ftp://ftp.rootsweb/tx/smith/cemetery/providenc.txt . I have talked to some Ballard researchers also. This James Monroe Ballard, I think, is buried in Van Zandt Co TX (again I may be wrong about this). I also have some Phillips' in my family. An Amanda Phillips married Bazel Bruner in Miss. and they moved to Texas. Anyway for what this is worth. Have a nice weekend. Stan Bruner TX

Don, I don't have much in my files. I just had Jane E. b. 1846 MS, married Andrew Jackson (b. ca 1850 MS) with that same marriage record you have. She is mentioned in her fathers will as Miss Jane Ballard. I don't know where she is buried and thanks to you I now know where he is buried. I do have a child listed as Ida b. 1869. Most of Jane's family is buried in Shiloh Cemetery there on the Itawamba/Lee County line so I assumed she might be too? She is the daughter of John and Elizabeth Flannigan Phillips and a sister, Lucinda Caroline is married the A.J. Ballard's brother James M. Ballard and Lucinda is buried at Shiloh with L. C. Ballard on her marker, b. 1849 d. 1877. On the 1880 census her husband had a new wife named Ezzernett?? Or something like that? Lucinda children were mentioned in her father, John's, will also since she was already dead. On the census it lists these children of hers, Andrew, Robert, Willie Nona, Lula and Elizabeth "Lizzie". With Lizzie being b. about the time of Lucinda's death. I now wonder if the John Thomas Phillips that married Cisley was also related?? We have a Thomas, but my great grandfather was his brother and his name was John W., so I don't know if he could have been another John or not?? Hello researchers. I'm responding to the researcher who wants to get a request posted on the Itawamba County site. I'm not sure if you all know, but Ancestry.com recently acquired Rootsweb. At the time we were using the GenConnect boards for queries. All the boards were combined into one Rootsweb message board for Itawamba County. The old URL doesn't work, here's the new URL. http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.northam.usa.st ates.mississippi.counties.itawamba Bobbe
Child # 6, Archibald P. Griffin, is my great-grandfather. His mother was Rachel. Some researchers believe James Griffin was Rachel's husband, but there is no proof. A 60-year old James Griffin is on the 1850 mortality schedule, and researchers have "assumed" he belonged to Rachel. Before moving to Itawamba Co., the family lived in Chickasaw/Calhoun County on land patented by John T. Griffin in the 1840's. Therefore, I believe Rachel was married to John T. Griffin and not James. I also disagree that Child #2, Nancy Griffin, married W.F. Jones. According to the headstone in Sandy Springs Cemetery, N.J. Jones, wife of W.F. Jones, was born October 10, 1855 and died Dec. 11, 1911. The dates make this marriage impossible. There are marriage records of a Nancy Griffin and W.F. Jones, but here again, researchers have erroneously linked that marriage to Griffin Child #2. If anybody has information to the contrary, please let me know.
