Itawamba County Times August 26, 1948 Adelbert Ames Gregory Dies Past Monday Night; Buried On Tuesday Funeral Services were held Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the Priceville Baptist Church in Lee County, for Adelbert Ames Gregory who died suddebly at his home on Guntown, Rt. 1, near Mantachie on Monday night. He was nearly 75 years of age. Mr. Gregory had lived near Mantachie for about 25 years and had served three terms as Justice of the Peace of the Second District. He ate his supper as usual on Monday night, and retired as usual, although he said that he did not feel as well as usual. Mrs. Gregory noticed that he was in a coma a few minutes after he lay down and went for help. He was dead in a few minutes. The cause of death was diagnosed as heart trouble. A farmer in addition to his duties as Justice of the Peace, Mr. Gregory took an active interest in the affairs of the county. His stand for the right on all matters was unquestionable. He had been a member of the Saltillo Baptist Church since early manhood. Rev. W. G. Gray, pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church was in charge of the funeral services and Senter Funeral Home handled the funeral arrangements. Interment was in the family plot at the Priceville Cemetery. The deceased leaves his wife, Mrs. Edna Gregory, four sons, Foster Gregory of Caroline Community, James A. Gregory of Memphis, Archie Gregory of Prairie, and Allen Gregory of Guntown; eight daughters, Mrs. A. M. Loden of Dorsey, Mrs. W.M. Brooks of Tupelo, Mrs. E.D. Duvall of Heth, Ark., Mrs. O.C. Itawamba County Times July 26, 1956 Jimmy Dale Loden Killed Sunday In Auto Accident Willie Frank Donald, 19-year old Marine Pfc, is being held on charges of manslaughter in the death of Jimmi Dale Loden, according to County Attorney W. Herman Camp. Young Loden died as a result of injuries he received Sunday evening about six o'clock when Donald lost control of his car while going up the York Hill, 3 1/2 miles South of Mantachie on Highway 363. Jessie Donald, 15, a brother of the driver, was also in the car at the time of the wreck. According to Highway Patrolmen Noel Kirk and Julian Davis the car was traveling at a rate of speed in excess of the speed limit when it went out of control and knocked down a tree. Loden was thrown out of the car and his chest was crushed. The driver was not hurt, and Jessie Donald received only a minor back injury, it was stated. Loden died in the Tupelo Community Hospital within an hour after the accident. He was rushed there in an attempt to save his life, which proved vain. He did live long enough to be able to talk to his parents a few minutes before he died. In addition to the manslaughter charge, the highway patrolmen charged Donald with reckless driving and driving while drunk. The accident was investigated by Itawamba's Sheriff Wayne Wood, and Patrolmen Julian Davis and Noel Kirk. Young Loden would have been a freshman at ICHS this year. He was 15. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. from the New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. G.S. Raburn officiating.
