Jan and David, I know of no volunteer "company" raised in Holmes County that was engaged in the Mexican War. However, men from Holmes County, along with many from Madison and Attala Counties, joined Captain Adam McWillie's (of Madison County) 2nd Infantry Regiment raised in the latter part of 1846. The fact that Holmes County men, along with men from Attala County, joined the 2nd Infantry Regiment, raised in Madison County, may indicate that no such Regiment or Company was organized in Holmes County - or, wouldn't they have joined their own Holmes County unit? This is just a guess on my part. This information came from page 30, Kosciusko - Attala History. However, Chapter 4, History of Kosciusko and Attala County by J.H. Wallace (1916) includes a list of those men who served in Adam McWillie's 2nd Infantry Regiment, and goes on to say, "The company left the State for the scene of war in the fall of 1846, and as we had no railroads or other means of transportation in those days, the soldiers had to leave marching on foot. The detachment which left Attala marched to Canton, where they were joined by the detachments from Madison and Holmes and the full company duly organized." This quotation would seem to indicate that "detachments" were formed in Holmes County. Whether they were of Regimental or Company size or smaller (more likely?) remains to be seen.
