    3. My Weems family were in Durant. Brothers James Madison Weems and Samuel Wesley Weems moved from Abbeville, South Carolina in the 1830s or 1840s. Samuel Wesley does not have a Thomas among his listed children, probably did not have a child born that late, and his children were not old enough for one of them to have had a child in 1869. James Madison Weems had two sons, John W. Weems and James Madison Weems Jr. John W. was the older. I do not have a list of his children so he is possible. James Madison Weems Jr. was my grandmother's grandfather (and did not have a son named Thomas). There were other Weems families in the area though I'm not sure they were there that late. If John W. was Thomas' father, I can provide a few earlier generations. You might also try the Weems lists, at Rootsweb and Yahoo Groups (for some reason, the Yahoo list has been the more active).
