Warren and Sue I came in on the tail end of this exchange on the Keirn family of Holmes County, so I do not know what you know. I live within a few miles of one of the original plantations of Walter Leake Keirn and I have a bit of material on the family that I have collected during my research of the county's history. Fill me in on what you would know or would like to know and perhaps I can assist you. Some of his descendants still reside in Greenwood, Miss. and one of them has a potrait of Lt. Col. W.L. Keirn, CSA. My best, Dan Edwards
Hi, and thanks for writing....well I started this whole thing with wanting to know where Walter's father, Garrett Keirn was buried, and when did he and his wife, Lucy Leake, die. As for Walter, I know some about him, his Civil War record, his wife, Claudia Durden, and some of their children. A few years ago, I contacted a Bud Keirn and exchanged some information, and he sent me photos of Walter and wife's tombstones in Lexington. Do know any of the names of Walter's plantations?? I would love to get any other information you may have on them. Walter's father, Garrett, was my uncle, brother to my 4th great grandfather. Garrett was the only brother to go to the south, probably, but I don't for sure, because of his wife, Lucy Leake. Lucy's family came from a well to do family in Virginia. I have been told that her father was a governor of Mississippi...................---- Original Message ----- From: "Dan Edwards" <shoccoe@netdoor.com> To: <MSHOLMES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 24, 2003 7:58 PM Subject: Re: [MSHOLMES] Leake/Keirn > Warren and Sue > I came in on the tail end of this exchange on the Keirn family of Holmes > County, so I do not know what you know.
