Could someone please lookup William Snelson and wife Matilda in the 1866 Holmes Co census for me? many thanks in advance, shandi
So sorry for starting my "stay" on this list with such a blunder. I meant to ask about William Snelson on the 1850 & '60 lists. Chalk the blunder up to either: I just got off of a 1300 mile trip this afternoon, a senior moment, or I"ve just totally lost it! again,, sorry, shandi
I'm looking for information on George Waters, Thompson Co, 1830. I hope someone has some info on George they are willing to share! shandi
Please excuse my forwarding the note I sent to Yalobusha county to the rest of you rather than retyping it, but my arthritic fingers are not too swift with this task! We know that Sarah Charlotte PITCHFORD married David SORRELS in Amite county ca 1822, that he had property and held office in Carroll county, and that they also lived in Holmes county. I haven't searched church records yet, so don't know which graveyards they could be buried in. I would appreciate any leads for Sarah Charlotte, David Sorrels, or any other Pitchfords that you can provide. Church records, cemetery inscriptions, baptisms, etc.--anything! Happy to share info on my branch of the Sorrels/Sorrells with anyone interested. She was married first in Amite county to David SORRELS/SORRELLS and was the mother of his seven children, all born in the Holmes, Amite, Yalobusha, Carroll counties area. After David's death in 1839, Sarah Charlotte married Ellison EDWARDS ca 1841 and had three more sons. In the 1850 Holmes county census the four younger Sorrels children are living with their mother and step father in Lexington. > > It is thought that Sarah Charlotte died sometime late in the 1850's, but her exact date of death and burial site are not known. Ellison Edwards remarried twice thereafter, having additional children. >> Most of Sarah Charlotte's children by David Sorrels moved either to LA in the mid 1850's or to TX shortly thereafter. Many of them disposed of the lands they inherited from their father about that time. > > Any leads as to cemeteries where someone who died about this time might be buried would be much appreciated! I would welcome even the smallest clues! We have never found David Sorrels' grave either, and we know these people had the means to mark the graves of their loved ones. > > Thanks for your time and attention! > > > > --- J J G > > --- jjg6808@earthlink.net > > --- Genealogists--We Confuse the Dead & Irritate the Living ! > > > > --- J J G > --- jjg6808@earthlink.net > --- Genealogists--We Confuse the Dead & Irritate the Living ! --- J J G --- jjg6808@earthlink.net --- Genealogists--We Confuse the Dead & Irritate the Living !
I am seeking information on the Stanton & Wilkins Plantation that was listed on the 1840 Holmes Co., census. Does anyone on the list have any idea who the Wilkins was that is listed? I had Wilkins family that was in Holmes Co., in 1840 and would like to know if there was a connection....what was the Stanton connection? Thanks,Dolores
My Weems family were in Durant. Brothers James Madison Weems and Samuel Wesley Weems moved from Abbeville, South Carolina in the 1830s or 1840s. Samuel Wesley does not have a Thomas among his listed children, probably did not have a child born that late, and his children were not old enough for one of them to have had a child in 1869. James Madison Weems had two sons, John W. Weems and James Madison Weems Jr. John W. was the older. I do not have a list of his children so he is possible. James Madison Weems Jr. was my grandmother's grandfather (and did not have a son named Thomas). There were other Weems families in the area though I'm not sure they were there that late. If John W. was Thomas' father, I can provide a few earlier generations. You might also try the Weems lists, at Rootsweb and Yahoo Groups (for some reason, the Yahoo list has been the more active). We have learned that there is a GADBERRY Family buried ACONA Cemetery. And there are others in and around Durant. We are eager to speak with any surviving relatives of this family. If you know of any GADBERRY connections, whether they carry that name currently, or not, we would be appreciative of any help. Gratefully Dover2
I'm hoping to find someone who know anything about James Kinney born in Ireland, and his wife Mary (maiden name unknown). In the 1880 census, James Kinney and Mary are shown with children: Mary Richard Ella Bobbie Moore (stepdaughter) In the 1900 census James Kinney and Mary are divorced but still living together, James being listed as a boarder, but with these children: Biddie Ellen Jimmie Mattie Allice (sp?, can't read it very well). James Kinney (perhaps Jimmie) married Nannie Killebrew in 1900 Holmes Co. Biddie Kinney married J.C. Tolar in 1902 Holmes Co. Mary (Mollie) Kinney married George Trigleth in 1896. Does anyone know anything, or anybody who might know about this Kinney family? Thanks. Sue Also, I only have a death date for Mary Kinney wife of James Kinney. She died 3/26/1847 and is buried at Oak Grove Cem, Tolarville.

IOOF,Tappan Lodge # 22 was in Lexington by at least 1847. In 1848 the Lodge had 53 members. I saw a deed dated 1866,so it was still active then. Should have more info in a couple of weeks and will keep you all advised. Jimmy
I have some additional info sent from listers and what I picked up locally. Tappaw Lodge #22 may be Tappan Lodge #22. I do not know where it is. That is what I am trying to find out. I have been told that their never was an Odd Fellows Lodge in Lexington but that their was some in surrounding towns or communities. But there is an OD cemetery in Lexington. Strange?? Jimmy
