    3. Hello Mary, Thanks for all of the good History on SW Hinds Co., MS. The only one that we know for sure went to Texas was my GGGrandparents Henry & Mary Polly (Goodson) Cook, do not know where the rest of them went. Thanks again, Elnora Frances Cook-Wyrick -----Original Message----- From: LANDINMC@aol.com <LANDINMC@aol.com> To: ejwaa@worldnet.att.net <ejwaa@worldnet.att.net> Date: Saturday, March 03, 2001 10:52 AM Subject: Re: JAMES COOK FAMILY GA>MS>TX>? The Cooks who settled in SW Hinds County, MS, came here in the early 1800s, and were James, John, and Jarad. None of the descendents I know of know if they were brothers or cousins. I have John's line because the family still lives in Utica, MS, after 7 generations. Jarad or James had a child or children that married into the Mordecai Baldwin family, and in the next generation into the Newman family that lived between Vicksburg and Utica. Baldwin Ferry on the Big Black River was owned by Mr. Baldwin, and was located at the site of a Choctaw Indian village and several still-older Indian mounds. It is now MS Hwy 27. I am not sure that any of these Cooks are the people you seek, because it looks like your bunch moved on to Texas early on. I have not found gravestones or records for any of the surnames (and given names) you list in SW Hinds. Some of Major John Cook (RevWar in Virginia, 1762-1818, buried in Utica Cemetery) children married Devenports, Hunts, McElwees, Thomases, and later generations Mitchells, Newsomes, etc. Mrs. Russell F. Cook Jr. (Helen) is the widow of the generation living in Utica, and she has 2 sons and 2 daughters, none of whom are currently in Utica but who call Utica home. Her husband was a semi-invalid due to heart trouble, and died young while their children were small. Mary Collins Landin
