    1. [MSFRANKL-L] School Photos
    2. Nancy Brister
    3. Just a brief note to everyone who's expecting copies of the school photos. I wanted to let you know that I won't be able to send them off this week. My mom suffered a stroke yesterday morning....so far, indications seem to be that it's the less dangerous of the two kinds. We're very grateful for this. She will probably be in the hospital for the rest of the week and then require some physical therapy, but the dr. is hopeful that she may be able to make a recovery, whether it will be complete or not isn't known yet. Don't think that I've forgotten about the pictures, I'll get them off to everyone just as soon as I can. Please accept my apologies for sending this to the lists, but I was afraid that I might overlook someone. Nancy

    3. Ed, thanks for getting back to me. My Nettles are the descendants of Isham Nettles' son, Elisha Nettles. Two of Elisha's children married children of my ggg grandfather, John Chisholm. One of them being my gg grandfather, Daniel Washington Chisholm, Sr., who married Elizabeth Frances Nettles. I have eleven children for Elisha Nettles and Elizabeth Christine Crider. I only have info on three of them. The two above and Emily Susanna who married Wiley H. Bowlin. I would love to get more info on this family line. I do not have anything on a Olivia Mae Nettles. From the above do you see a connection? I am also interested in learning more about a Robert M. Hart. All I know is he died in 1947. Thanks, Sonya ----- Original Message ----- From: "Edward J. But only you can make the determination...I provided the sources and leads for you is all. I gave information on exacts if I had enough info. But to go further, I would really be doing research you only can make sence of from your own knowledge etc. I can pull up a number of records and look at the documents, but have no way to determine if it is the one you want. You alone can decide if it is whom you look for. But as always, if I can help, I will be here trying my best for all of us. Now save me some of the Blue Gills. 3. Ed, I owe you a case of Pepsi for this record. Now, if I can ask a question or two (probably dumb, but I have not done much study of the different Units in the Civil War). For BENJAMIN FRANKLIN BALLANCE I would eliminate the Texas service records. B.F. owned property in both MS and LA but no record of him living/owning property in TX. As far as more information goes, which you said you had to have for the Assistant Surgeon record, I can give you the stats I have on him. Some holes, of course, but all histories have them. Born abt. 1806 ?. First marriage (had 4 wives) was to SARAH CATHERINE ELLIS 10 May 1827 Adams Co. MS. Multiple Land transactions beginning around 1835, a few with SILVESTER ALDRIDGE (married to B.F.'s sister ANN RITTA BALLANCE), in both Amite Co. MS and Concordia Parish LA. He died 7 Jan 1883 Vidalia LA but body was moved to Natchez City Cemetery. He left widow, EMILY ALDRIDGE BALLANCE, who survived him 6 years. She and two other of his wives, SARAH CATHERINE ELLIS BALLANCE and ANN A. WHITTINGTON BALLANCE are also buried at the Natchez City Cemetery. Have found no info other than marriage date of 10 Sep 1839 Franklin, Amite Co. to wife No. 2, DRUSILLA WILSON. Is this the kind of info you would need? I suppose it is possible that he started in the MS Cavalry and was later transferred to another unit. Were any dates of enlistment mentioned? I HAVE read, toward the end of the War that many Units were consolidated, remixed and reformed due to the loss of men. He may have joined the LA Unit first as he had kin there. As to the Assistant Surgeon....... I have no idea of his occupation YET. ------------------- Benjamin Franklin No record ( Might need to check more on this for you.)(What the heck, I checked again...38 Hits...Now to find him...Let me see... 1. 8 Mississippi Calvalry   2.(possible) Assistant Surgeon (you have to have more info to make the determination 3. Unit 21 Tx. Calvalry 4. Unit 1 Louisiana Infanty (this guy served with some of the others) 5. Unit 27 Tex Calvary Five of them ...Take Your pick for a record etc. .............................................. There is no way to pick just one JAMES ROBERT BALLANCE. This family ran long on John Hs and James Rs, unless, perhaps, the place of enlistment could give us a clue - HANAN BALLANCE had a son JAMES R. who is listed as a soldier in the CSA in the History of Bienville Parish LA (no Unit given). HANAN BALLANCE also had a son JOHN H. BALLANCE (H for Hanan). Then there's a JAMES R. BALLANCE from Yazoo Co. MS, s/o JOSHUA BALANCE/BALLANCE, the Patriarch of this family. He was b. 1798 TN, married ELIZA ADAMS 5 Mar 1829 Adams Co. MS, d. Oct 1865 Yazoo Co. MS. One of the JAMES ROBERT BALLANCE records you found could be his, even though they were all LA enlistments. I am unsure of his occupation in Yazoo. I have documents stating he was a Mason, executor of several wills, witness to several wills, charitably minded and buried with his wife and at least one child JOHN ROUTH BALLANCE at Solitary Valley Cemetery in Natchez, Adams Co. MS. ---------------- James Robert 1. Unit:8 Louisiana Infanty 2. Unit: Consolidated 18 Reg't and Yellow Jacket Batt'n, Louisiana Infantry (by the way, the numbers 1, 2. etc. denote individuals not more units the same person served...) 3. Unit: 1 Louisiana Heavy Artillary 4. Unit: 3 Louisiana Infantry 5. Unit: 8 Louisiana Infantry 6. Unit 10 Batt'n Louisiana Infantry 7. Unit 18 Louisiana Infantry 8> (another of the Consolidated Infanty guys) 9. Unit: 6 Field Batt'y (Grosse Tete Flying Art'y) Louisiana L. Art'y ( I liked the name of this L. Artillary) 10. Unit 28 (Gray's Louisiana Infanty) 11. Unit: 5 Louisiana Infanty Take your pick which one? ------------------ It would be a real coup if all these BALLANCE men could be found serving together, wouldn't it? This is probably more information than you needed, but I thought as long as I was answering you I would throw out some of what I know about this family to the LIST. Maybe one of the collateral names will ring a bell with someone's research. Thanks again, Ed, for all your help. I am presently looking for a new pond in which to catch some Blue Gill. They are the best eating!!! Suzanne
