They had six children. (He had six by a previous wife) The Emfingers must have been tall as we were always told that was where we received our height (6'4 to 6'6) the children by the first wife were all around 5'8. We have a picture of Laura and William.

My information doesn't clarify the ancestry of Simon Hill any better. I can just furnish what I know about two of the people listed in Billy's information. T.Q. Hill who married M.E. Cunningham is Thomas Quincy Hill, son of Martha "Mattie" Geoghegan and her first husband, Samuel R. Hill. M.E. Cunningham is Mae Cunningham, daughter of Nancy Elizabeth "Betty" Lazarus Cunningham and her husband Thad Cunningham. Thomas Quincy was born in 1871. Mae Cunningham Hill's grandmother was Clara Ann Seale Lazarus King. Thomas J. Hill married Sedonia E. Dove. She was the daughter of John Cornelius Dove and Mary Elizabeth Shirley Dove and was born in Neshoba County, MS. The Doves were originally from Fairfield County, S.C. Thomas J. Hill is buried in the Williams Cemetery in Franklin County. The dates on his tombstone are September 10, 1858-January 1, 1905. According to information given me by another relative, Thomas J. Hill died of yellow fever and was buried secretly and at night in the Williams Cemetery. There were no children from this marriage. He was quite a bit older than "Donie" She was born in 1870. Hope this helps. The Gilbert's that married into the Guice line are from Tillman and Thomas Gilbert, brothers, son of Benjaman Gilbert of Kentucky, born in Maryland. These are distant cousins of Samuel Gilbert and his family. Tony Miller is great but he has the wrong family. the tie with the Sherfields is not through the Gilberts but through the Spires. I have been researching the Gilbert's in LA and MS for 4o years--so I might be able to help you. My line is Samuel Gilbert who married Dicy Hughs in Adams Co in 1805. He is part of the Maryland Gilbert family and I know the connections. I am also familiar with the Gilbert boys--Tillman and Thomas--who married into the Guice family. From your note I am not able to tie these together. The two Gilbert men who married into the Spires/Spairs family are from my Samuel and were born and reared in MS. There is another man researching the children of Samuel Jr. Gilbert (early member in VA) and a lot of this family came to MS and LA. There is another family of Gilbert's, Edward who married Mary Ann Foote and settled in LA. If you could give me a little more to go on, I will be happy to share what I have. I know by looking at what you gve that you have some false connections.
