Lloyd: I re-read your memo--Cynthia was widowed in 1763 and 48 years later in 1811 she married John Harrigill? Could there be a problem with these dates? This John Harrigill was a son of Daniel and Rebecca Harrigill who came into the MS Territory via flatboat from TN in 1788. Tony, yes i do want to include a little more info on these folks than just the d.o.b. etc. I have included a column for misc. info titled "remarks". This is where I may give info regarding marriage date, place and to whom. Was the spouse from TN. Also, very importantly, the estimated date of arrival. The remarks will run about 2 to 3 sentences. I would like to include a reference for each individual, but the formating for this info may cramp the page, so I may have to use a footnote to the reference and place it at the end of the material. An introduction to all this will give a brief history of the area providing a historical backdrop and suggestions for why these folks felt compelled to migrate into the SWMS Territory. Also, will contain descriptions of various routes taken from the TN country into the Natchez District. My ggrandfather, George Hall was born 1/1851 in MS. Married in 1877 in Jefferson Co to Cynthia Raney. According to the 1880 census, his father's place of nativity was TN. His mother's was MS. It appears this Hallfamily moved from TM to Ms after 1850. I haven't been able to find this family on the 1860 0r 1870 census. >From: "Don Etheridge" <Don.Etheridge@nashville.com> >Reply-To: MSFRANKL-L@rootsweb.com >To: MSFRANKL-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [MSFRANKL-L] TN>MS pre 1820 >Date: Wed, 7 Mar 2001 14:15:08 -0600 > >I am compiling research here in TN on Tennesseans who migrated into >Southwest Mississippi Territory, i.e., Natchez District before 1820. Don, According to census records in Jefferson Co., MS my ggg-grandfather, Thomas Lee migrated to MS from KY. It is my assumption that he came through TN and possibly married there, for I cannot find a marriage record either in MS or KY for him and wife, Milly Gennette Barefoot. He and Milly first appear in Jefferson Co, MS in the census of 1810. Her place of birth is reported at MS, but all efforts to further identify them have failed. Thanks. I'm not sure exactly what you need or if I can even provide enough for you, as I only have family tradition, nothing concrete. My gg grandfather, Israel Franklin Chambers was born 1820-1825 in MS, but exactly where I don't know. On the 1810 Jefferson County census, an Israel Chambers is listed and he is in Wilkinson County in 1820. Through other sources I am pretty sure he is connected to my Israel, but I'm not sure how. Family tradition says that the Chambers family came from Kershaw County, SC to MS through TN. In looking at later MS census records, such as 1850, where birth places are listed, there are a couple of MS Chambers families with TN connections, which seems to bear out the story that they came through TN. I would like to see the results of your research when complete to see if any other Chambers information is listed. I will also be glad to help in any way that I can on my family.
