Posted on: Franklin Co. Ms Queries Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ms/Franklin/10796 Surname: Scott, Magee ------------------------- I may have been the one who was scratching my head over who's surname was under the huge ink spot in the copy of Lambright's "History of Franklin County to 1899" in the Meadville Library and finally concluded that it had to be Joseph Scott, Jr. Sadly this history only mentions his sons and not his daughters. From what I have been able to assess he did have a number of daughters including one I am showing as Eliza, b. 29 Jul 1809. I have a hunch that this is the same girl who married William Magee in May 1827. If you would like to exchange Scott and Magee information privately please let me know.
Posted on: Franklin Co. Ms Queries Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ms/Franklin/10795 Surname: Scott, Magee ------------------------- I am looking for the parents of Elizabeth Scott, b. bef 1802 and d. aft 1853 Franklin Co., MS. She married William Magee Sep 1827. At the Franklin Co., MS site on early Settlers, http://www.rootsweb.com/~msfrankl/settlfms.htm, the following is found: "According to W. W. Lambright's "History of Franklin County, Mississippi from 1809-1899" ... [Jo...*...ott, an old time settler, had four sons: Gabriel, Nehemiah, Joseph, Jr., and Benjamin.] / ...*... means "unable to read. However, it appears to be Joseph Scott." I suspect that Elizabeth may be part of this family. The parents of William Magee, h/o Elizabeth Scott, were Willis Magee and Asha Scott from NC, who moved to Franklin Co., MS by 1808. Asha was d/o Joseph Scott Sr and Mary Holmes, who lived in NC. Joseph Scott Sr had a younger brother, Nehemiah Scott Sr, who married Elizabeth //. At least two of their daughters were married and moved to Southwest MS. Both Nehemiah Sr and Joseph Sr named sons Joseph and Nehemiah. I show that Nehemiah Sr's son, Joseph Jr, died before 14 Feb 1799 in Sampson Co., NC. The only information that I have on Joseph Scott Jr, the s/o Joseph Scott Sr and Mary Holmes, is that he was born in Sampson Co., NC. His siblings were born between 1748 and 1775. In addition to h/s Asha moving to Franklin Co., MS, his sister Mary, w/o Thomas Page, moved to Covington Co., MS. Thomas and Mary Page has sons name Nehemiah Scott Page and Joseph Page. Mary Holmes, w/o Joseph Scott Sr, was d/o John Holmes and Tamar Byrd. John Holmes was previously married and had a son, Gabriel Holmes Sr. Based on the above information, especially the names, it would appear that "the old time settler" could be Joseph Scott Jr, the s/o of Joseph Scott Sr and Mary Holmes. Although, the "old time setter" was referred to as Joseph Scott Sr, it was common for a son to drop the Jr title and become Sr, upon the death of the father.. Joseph Scott Sr died Bef Jan 1781 in Duplin Co., NC. The site http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=ageoghegan&id=I1115 shows a Joseph Scott III marrying Elizabeth Lee Bef 1845 in Franklin Co., MS. This could be the Joseph Scott Jr shown as the old time settler's son, Joseph Scott Jr. Any information or clarification would be appreciated.

Tangela: this is the second time you had attached a message to the subject of John Harrigill--but the message is about the Freewoods community--Is there some connection between the Harrigill family and your family? If so, would you please share this with us? kate ----- Original Message ----- From: <Tagib@aol.com> To: <MSFRANKL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 16, 2001 9:34 AM Subject: Re: [MSFRANKL-L] John Harrigill > My Grandmother was a BONDS who lived in Coles Creek. Being there are so many new Morrises on this list maybe one can connect to mine. He is my brick wall!! WILLIAM J.[JACKSON] MORRIS b. ca 1819 MS. father b. SC, mother b. NC according to his 1880 census. He married Cassandra Ruth Middleton 1844 Franklin Co. MS. They lived in Wayne Co., Jasper Co. and possibly Clarke Co. all in MS. They moved to St. Landry Parish LA 1862 and then moved to Fayette Co. TX ca. 1868. Then on to Refugio Co. TX, San Antonio, Bexar Co. TX. I have found 4 of their children and families living in various counties in the south eastern part of TX. He was listed as a doctor of Medicine in 1880 cen. He was liste as a widower in the 1880 census. So his wife died after 1870 and bef 1880 census. All help appreciated. Pauline Hallett pollywog@laughlin.net or pollywog1930@yahoo.com
My Grandmother was a BONDS who lived in Coles Creek. Her Father started a African Methodist Church there. His name was A. Nathanial BONDS. Jog any memories for anyone? Thanks. Tangela
Posted on: Franklin Co. Ms Queries Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ms/Franklin/10792 Surname: Blount ------------------------- Maybe I did not make myself totally clear. The John Blount b. abt 1850 was the s/o Granberry Blount and Mary Breland. Granberry and Mary Breland had children Ben, Emily, Felder and John Blount. I do not have any children, or wife, listed for this John Blount. The time, place, and name should make this John Blount a possible candidate.
Henry Prather married Mary Jones 16 Jan 1887 in Jefferson County MS. His sister, Frances Prather married Mary's brother Jim about the same time--and I guess in Jefferson Co. I would like to know if either of these families remained in Jefferson County--did they have children? I would like to Jim's full name as well. I am researching the Prather's so I have little to offer on the Jones family--unless I find out more and can line them into the Franklin County Jones family. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. The listmanager has set up a gateway for all posts to the Franklin county board to also be posted here in case one of us can help, or one of our lines is posted. Many lists are doing this now. It is a wonderful idea. Some of the people who post to those do not know yet about our wonderful mailing list, so there's always a chance that one of us can help one of them, or can meet a new cousin! I have seen responses to my old posts hit the mailing lists I am on. This helps me when I have to change e-mails and they can no longer reach me at the old address. I end up seeing their post to the list! Posted on: Franklin Co. Ms Queries Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ms/Franklin/10784 Surname: Blount, Breland, Rodgers, Davis, Terrell, Howell, Britt, Wactor ------------------------- I have a John Blount (b. Abt 1850 in Pike, Amite, or Franklin Co., MS) in my database who was s/o Granberry Blount (b. abt 1824) and Mary Breland (b. 3 Jan 1828 - Pike Co., MS). I list siblings of this John as Ben, Emily, and Felder. I don't have the parents of Granberry Blount; however, the parents of Mary Breland are John Robertson Breland and Luraney Rogers. I found this information at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi. I suspect that Grandberry Blount mother's family may have been BRITT, as the various berries, i.e. Granberry, Greenberry, and Rasberry were commonly used as first names in the BRITT family. The h/o Ada Blount, Reuben Elisha Davis, was the son of James Elisha Davis and Virginia Taylor "Sally" Terrell. James Elisha Davis was s/o Reuben Ross Davis and Louisa Elizabeth Wactor, my 2nd Great Grandparents. Virginia Taylor "Sally" Terrell, was d/o Solomon Terrell and Martha Ann Howell. Solomon Terrell is my Great Grandfather with his 2nd wife, Frances Catherine Young, my Great Grandmother.
