Marie, Fulton has the greatest knack for bringing Hamburg and its citizens to life. I can picture the steam locomotive coming down the tracks that have been gone for so many years with Mr. Bonds at the controls and a much younger Fulton in the cab. What wonderful memories to cherish. Hope to be back down in that area next week to catch the Guice Reunion on the 21st at Harold Guice's place near Oldenburg. Tony Miller
Hi, Aseneth (Senie) Stampley Dove did marry Mr Bond after her son, Revia died. They may have lived at the old Dove (Gold hole) property for a very short while, but they moved to Mr Bonds home on the east side of the railroad in ROXIE. As a young boy I spent several 3-4 day stays with Aunt Senie and Mr Bond in Roxie. Incidently, Mr Bonds was a log train engineer for the Crosby Lumber Co. Mr Bonds was very kind to a young boy when they were loading logs in Hamburg. He let me ride with him in the cab of the old steam locomotive as he moved railroad cars back and forth. He may have been stretching the rules just a bit, but it is one of the highlight of my memories. Fulton Harrigill (In Seattle), fulton@harrigill.net Marie and Bill Bailey wrote: > > William H. Steve, The James A. Lee, son of John and Emeline Lee, you found in the LDS records appears to be the younger brother of my g-grandfather, David William Lee. My James A. Lee was born in MS and did leave Franklin County. I once contacted a grandson of James who was then living in Jena, LA but nothing else is known about him. I would very much like to communicate. Posted on: Franklin Co. Ms Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ms/Franklin/689 Surname: Graves, Bond ------------------------- Hi, thanks for your response. I must admit that this is all new to me. I only started looking for family about 3 or 4 months ago. William Harold Bond was my great grandfather and the only information I had on his second wife was her name, which was told to me as Senia Dove, and yes they were married in 1929 in Roxie. (It took me a minute to figure out what "m/2" meant. As I said I am new at this.) I started out looking for my grandfather's grave (Dewey D. Bond), which is at Roxie Cemetery and discovered that William Harold and Alice Eugenia, along with a daughter, Ada, were buried next to each other. I have no information on Alice's parents at this time. At this point, I don't recognize George or Henry W. Bond. William and Alice had 9 surviving children and they were: William; Alvin; Prentiss; Dewey; Luke; Ada; Amanda; Effie, and Rosa. I don't know William H. had any brothers. I have been told that the story handed down was that Mr. Bond's father went off to civil war and never returned. His family felt that he wasn't killed, but just decided not to come home. I was also told that the town of Roxie was named after Roxie Graves, perhaps Alice's sister. This is so fascinating to me. I have been to Roxie twice to visit, and spent some time talking to people who knew the Bonds. One of the fascinating stories to come out of this is a story about a place called the Gold Hole. If you have any information on any of this that you could share, would love to have. Thanks again for responding. Johnette
William H. Bond did marry Evans Ascenith "Senie" Stampley Dove as his second wife. They lived at her home in Hamburg, Ms. I'm curious about the Graves and Bonds also. The above note about Roxie Cemetery caught my eye because I have recently been doing some geneaology work on my family and have visited the Roxie Cemetery just yesterday for the second time in a couple of months. My great grandmother, Alice Graves (Bond), is buried in Roxie Cemetery, and she had a brother name Tom Graves. Don't know if ut us the same family, but would love to hear from someone.
