Greetings, Did NATHAN DAVIS come to LAUDERDALE COUNTY AL from NEWBERRY COUNTY SC? I have for many years been researching my gr gr grandfather NATHAN DAVIS (1786 - ?) who's son was named LEVI FOWLER DAVIS (1819 - 1888) NATHAN DAVIS was first found by this researcher in LAUDERDALE COUNTY ALABAMA. NATHAN DAVIS was in Lauderdale Co. from about 1821 until about 1842, when he moved to DESOTO COUNTY, MS. Family legend has NATHAN DAVIS coming from South Carolina, but I have never been able to locate the place of his birth nor who his parents were. I offer the following information in hopes of finding additional information about NATHAN DAVIS. Nathan was first married to EMILY FOWLER.. EMILY FOWLER was the child of MARTHA ODELL (DUCKETT) FOWLER and LEVI FOWLER, b 6 May, 1769, d 17 Apr., 1819 in Newberry Co., SC MARTHA ODELL (DUCKETT) FOWLER came to Lauderdale County Alabama with her two daughters, EMILY, NANCY, her son ELIJAH and her son-in-law NATHAN. EMILY FOWLER DAVIS died about 1819 at the birth or complications from the birth of her son LEVI FOWLER DAVIS. Emily's mother, MARTHA FOWLER and Nathan's 2nd wife EMILY McALUSTER (McALLISTER) raised LEVI FOWLER DAVIS. LEVI FOWLER DAVIS married NANCY GERMAN (JARMAN, GARMAN) in Monroe County Mississippi in 1841. NANCY GERMAN was the daughter of JOSEPH (JOE) GERMAN and VIRGINIA (JENNY) (MCCANDLESS) GERMAN. MARTHA ODELL (DUCKETT) FOWLER has a headstone in the Wesley Chapel Methodist church cemetery in Lauderdale Co. Alabama, which says: MARTHA O. FOWLER, wife of LEVI FOWLER and gives her birthdate as 6 May 1769 and her death date 11 July 1841. There is no headstone for LEVI FOWLER in this cemetery. Hi Bob :) Thanks for letting me know about Mildred Scott :) And with such a common name as Morgan, I'm confused all the time ... LOL. I have a partial theory about my Morgan's ... John and James Morgan lived very close to one another in the 1840 census (DeSoto) so I'm figuring that there is a family connection. Also the first born of James Morgan was William Alonzo Morgan. So I've been hunting William/John/James while census hunting. The J.S. Morgan you mention, is (I think), the other Ja's S. Morgan I found in the 1840 census. He was single at the time, and I think a merchant (as opposed to agriculture). He lived farther away from my James and John (or rather, James and John were on page 107/108 and James S. was on page 123 ... to confuse things further, there were more Martindale's by James S ... gotta love the census for causing more confusion ... LOL Also, I got an email from Nedreva Beck <nedreva@yahoo.com> and am awaiting another email from her, as she indicated that she had the family records for Nancy Martindale Morgan's second marriage. I was incorrect, it wasn't Daury, but rather Drury. Nedreva stated that her grandmother was Nancy Drury, stepsister to my Pleasant Decator Morgan. Glad I'm young enough to keep at this ... I'll topple my brick walls yet *grin* Thanks again! Lori Our Mixed Nuts .. err ..
