Ms Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ms/Covington/700 Surname: LEGGETT, PICKERING ------------------------- I have the following in my notes in regard to the Zion Seminary that I thought someone might want. William A. Leggett known as Judge William Leggett born Abt. 1801 in GA m. Phebe Pickering b. 1798 in Tn or Washington, AL in MS Territory. Deeded twenty acres of his land on the east bank of Okatoma Creek in Covington County for the purpose of building a Methodist School, which was named Zion Seminary. In 1860, William was living in Covington County, listed as a farmer who owned $9,000 of real estate and $35,000 of personal property. He died sometime after the Civil War of which he was a veteran. His religion was Methodist and most of his descendants have remained Methodist. He is buried in an unmarked grave on the east bank of the Okatoma Creek, near the present town of Seminary, named for the Zion Seminary which was destroyed during the Civil War. Does anyone else have knowledge of this seminary?
