I just learned that one of my ancestors was John Covington Thomas, who lived in Mississippi between about 1820 and 1848. He was the son of Stephen Thomas, who married Mary Covington. Can the county be named for one of my ancestors? Would appreciate any help in finding a summary of the early history of this area. John C. Thomas' daughter, Mary Ann, married my great grandfather, John Ronamus Eager.
