Ms Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ms/Covington/908 Surname: Dykes, Rutlands, Graves ------------------------- Dawn, Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I've found a lot of my Rutland information to be, at best, incomplete. I found a tax book for Covington Co, which covers the years between 1819 and 1899, and I can't find one Rutland who paid any taxes! They are hiding from the tax man, which is why we can't find them. I haven't read the book, but I have been told there is no reference to any Rutlands being involved in the fight, but they were all kin, I know that, so the possibility does exist. My Rutland ancestor, William A. (Allen), moved from Covington Co to Lincoln Co about 1881 or 82, according to one source. I find this intriguing and wonder why. I also wonder why the family doesn't know anything about the Rutland family. Allen's mother was an Indian. >From her pic, I would say at least 3/4. No information on his father, expect possibly his name was John, and that isn't proven fact. "Little Jim Dikes, lost his life in the Shiloh battle" is all the info on the tombstone, which is homemade. Gabe Chain's stone, beside Jim, reads the same. I have pics of the tombstones which I will scan and email to you, along with the email address of a descendant of Jim and Jemima Chain Dykes. Perhaps she can help with the Dykes. Loretta
