    3. Congratulations to Ann Stewart McDonald on her publication of the Cemetery Census Updated 2000 for Covington County and Surrounding Counties. I received my copy yesterday and this is truly a most valuable research tool to those with ancestors in Covington County and nearby cemeteries. It lists about 120 cemeteries; contains area maps for easy location; also includes locations by Township-Range-Section number; has a full surname index and encompasses 443 pages. It is published by Pioneer Publishing Co., P. O. Box 408, Carrollton, MS, 38917, ph: (662)237-6010 or email: pioneerse@tecinfo.com Price is listed as $40 plus $3 shipping and 7% tax to MS residents. Now Ann has not asked for this commercial but I am very impressed with her efforts and wanted to pass it along to others. Considering I just paid $30 plus shipping for another countie's cemetery book with only 30 cemeteries in it, this is a real bargain. Thank you Ann for your outstanding efforts. And a big thank you to all of those who helped you. Bill Norwood Grand Forks, North Dakota

I posted the querie regarding him because he was the only Taylor living in Covington County, MS in 1860. The page he was listed on (969) is near to my Bullocks (961) and Sanfords (988). I am trying to locate the family that Missouri Ophelia Taylor came from. There is another Taylor family listed in 1870 - Edwin Taylor. He is on page 400, while the Bullocks are on page 398 and the Sanfords on 393. Missouri Ophelia Taylor was born in 1872, so she would not be listed on either of these censuses.

    3. Posted on: Covington Co. Ms Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ms/Covington/11013 Surname: Easterling ------------------------- Bentonville Taylor was the Copeland Gang lawyer. He was attempting to take land away from the widow of William Bennett Easterling and one of the sons shot at him on Terrible Creek. He did not die but my Easterling cousin went to Texas after the shooting. In the Life and Confessions the noted outlaw James Copeland, they speculate he was shot by a member of the Copeland Gang. Eddie Michaels book tells of him moving to Lawrence County where his step-son killed him. They ran a train track over his grave which concerned his widow until they paid her some money. Overall, he was not too popular. I would be interested in more information about him. James Copeland was the most well known outlaw in South Mississippi.
