Lynda, Thank you for your quick response. I have copies of the pertinent census pages for 1830 and 1840. I am researching the MCLELAND family, many variations of the spelling of the name. They went to MS from SC after 1810 and I have seen one reference they were in MS by 1817. There are several MCLELANDS who went to MS in the late 1830s and early 1840s who came from SC but the group I am looking for arrived earlier. I have requested a look-up in the book, COPIAH CO. TAXPAYERS 1825-1841 through the Copiah Co. website. The MCLELANDS who arrived early in MS were Hugh, James and William, probably from York Co., SC. My research leads me to believe that the part of the family I am researching decends from William. Thank you again for your help. Mollie
